As for the smoking thing, yes I probably have missed past threads on the topic. I'm quite happy to leave it alone, but

Might be because I mused about banning ciggies completely. I will point out that that was a tongue in cheek response to watching the lurid cancer advertisement, and the lurid decaying body parts on packs.

I suspect they've reached the apex (or nadir?) of (probably expensive) discouraging campaigns & what's next?

Do these ads play through Mad Men?

  • Hard News: And The Mission Is?,

I was shouting at the television after two minutes.

Ha hah!! I watched one last year, it was spectacular - the mediums (media?) were told nothing other than two guys were strangled & thrown off a ship, their bodies were later found & the coroner deemed they'd been strangled & thrown off a ship.

Armed with only that information, two psychics divined that these two guys had been strangled & thrown off a ship.

Further, they were probably murdered by someone else on the ship.

    I was convinced.

    Too subtle? :).

I like to get my sledgehammer out nice & early.

Maybe type "boom boom" after the next one. That might filter through to my tired brain.

Hah - yes we have those lovely pictures on our ciggy packs, I was watching an ad last night with a tragic case - a guy recounting his radiotherapy as a result of smoking (no idea if he was an actor).

Lots of lurid pictures of cancer, tragic slurring of lines - at this stage I wonder if it'd be easier now just to ban cigarettes completely.

  • Hard News: The Greening,

Who doesn't know the red squashed cardboard box in the car park is from KFC,

years ago (80s) I cycled around the South Island with a friend, every few km, especially down the Wairau Valley & Buller Gorge for some reason, we'd pass squashed McDonalds packaging.

The odd thing was that at that time, there was no McDonalds in the South Island.

Beer just isn't that much fun,

Shame on you D, Beer is that much fun!

Even just a month ago, the brain-damaged woman in the LTSA ads simply turns out to be Australian…

There's a poor taste joke going begging there...

wonder if this is similar to the outcry after TVNZ screened Forgotten Silver back in the 1990s, when people found out it was a superb fake. We'd so wanted it to be true, no matter how outlandish, it was a real letdown to discover the truth!

You're right - I twigged when they enhanced the date on the newspaper in the Richard Piearse scene. I was really angry. Next day I laughed like a drain.

  • Hard News: The Greening,

"Biodegradable" in the sense that they eventually break down into smaller pieces of plastic as the links between polymer chains break. But at the end of it, you're still left with a pile of plastic, and nothing eats it or breaks it down.

I use these doggy doo bags (actually they're nappy bags, but they're exactly the same as doggy doo bags, but blue instead of green, and they're half the price - they say they're "biodegradeable", do you think they really are? (real question, I have no idea).

    Hey, what could go wrong?

There's been some place in Upper Hutt way (a team building type place - can't think of the word right now) for several years, it's made of polystyrene. You'd never know.
