I don't know- I didn't think it was a slick performance. It was anti-debating- not winning by virtue of making a greater case, but by disrupting the lines of questioning and ignoring the things you find inconvenient.

  • Hard News: Fluency, ease of manner - and…, in reply to Bart Janssen,

You mean this kind of thing Bart

We must celebrate our ABs and the glory of our politicians as they avoid giving the public information or answering questions about a matter of our privacy and freedom…

    8 to 3! Winner! !

Can’t be a boxing analogy- if a boxer refused interviews as much as Key has done he would be stripped of his crown. Not sure what he’s got to be so proud of. Concur with Bart- we should be dis-custard.

Cunliffe could go toe-to-toe with him, probably.

I’d love to see him debate some one like Dame Anne- some one who could really show him up with decency, humility and mana. Didn’t the Left used to have elder statesmen and people with mana and trust? You can’t marketing campaign up years of public service and consistent public actions.

  • Hard News: The future: be careful what…, in reply to Tom Semmens,

and then these folk have children with the help and these children end up as perennial internet commentators?

still, as a snarky stereotype it's a different one from 'poofters, wogs and spastics'. Kinda like South Park on San Francisco...

Besides all pejorative stereotypes only apply to local football as you can watch your ancestral team or pretend you are worthy of hanging out with Mr R. Abrahmovic, Saudi princes, Malaysian moguls, American hucksters et al (see Key, J etc etc) while maintaining while maintaining a secure identity with a bit of local mongrel.

Sommet will have Bundesliga free to air on Freeview! Including Marco Rojas! Though seems unlikely he will start, but who knows?

$3-4 a week is nothing to get ALL the EPL games, a fair swag of them on demand, and highlights packages. Anyone who says otherwise isn't a football fan or more likely has no access to decent internet. If you buy one less beer a week you can buy the Coliseum package for you and for a friend. This is far from price prohibitive.

The question is how to justify maintaining Sky for football fans and how Sky will step up. Will it be out to the bars for big matches or Sky sport cable-pooling (over to one friend's house for the big matches)?

It also brings EPL games and highlights free to air on both Sommet and TVNZ which is actually a much higher level of free coverage than we have seen since Sky got the EPL.

What has happened with Igloo? Apparently it hasn't been that popular?

As for the telco angle- I imagine or at least hope- that the smart telco would want to get first mover indentification as the telco to give the best service for watching content over the internet (something I already associate with ORCON with their unlimited caps on youtube and isky).

Hopefully we'll see some serious competition around this opportunity and consumers will be the winners. Interesting times, but Sky is still streets ahead and how they react will be interesting.

Didn't Phil Goff keep fighting for Roskill when he got turfed out? Is that something only the respected generation of NZ parliamentarians worry about? (IE pre-Key candidate-from-central-casting days)

  • OnPoint: What Andrew Geddis Said, But…,

Actually this constant abuse of urgency and process as a way of doing business seems even a little more ominous and totalitarian. Something of a prelude perhaps. Hopefully not, but is Labour really the saviour here? Thinking about when the GCSB spied on kiwis, Zaoui etc etc.

so this reminds me of the 90s when crazy crazy shit was happening (Alamein Kopu etc etc etc) and until I stumbled onto Hard News I couldn't believe that no one was getting called on it. I thought either I was crazy or all the paper and tv news outlets were.

Who's Robin Hood these days? The Listener isn't as robust as it was and the blogosphere is a fractured kind of a thing.

  • Hard News: Triangulated by Fools,

I know there isn't anyone reading any more but!
It’s understood that that Taylor has lost the support of senior players which could lead to Brendon McCullum taking over the captaincy of the BlackCaps.
