  • Field Theory: You play to win the game,

Weird, Gravatar seems to be picking up my image from somewhere, automatically. I presume it's either Last.fm or Facebook?

Anywhere that you used the same email address to register a gravatar as the one you used when registering for PAS.

  • Field Theory: You play to win the game,

On the other hand, hearing Rugby Park / Waikato Stadium go absolutely nuts when Grant Fox / Carlos / etc are lining one up makes me *so* proud.

    Guilty as charged your honour.
Waikato Stadium: The only place in the world where "more cowbell" is a legitimate command and not a reference to an SNL sketch...

  • Legal Beagle: Threshold,

The members of the Electoral College won't vote until December 15.

So the problem is that the articles keep saying that Obama had passed the 270 EC votes needed when in fact they had only received instructions from voters indicating they should vote that way...

  • Legal Beagle: Threshold,

On this basis, Obama isn't the President-elect either.

Voters in the US elect members of the electoral college, who choose the President.

But the electoral college has spoken and therefore Obama IS the president-elect. By whom he was elected is not the point. Whether by citizens or colleges, it doesn't matter, he is the man in waiting

  • Speaker: Copyright Must Change,

    @Keir

That music has a value, and if you won't pay, that's your problem.

And if it costs too much, don't pay. That's the free market for you.

I assume you use this expression to mean don't use that music rather than promoting just taking it for free anyway without paying...?

  • Hard News: History is now,

Re Schadenfreude, I know it's hard to resist, but it's actually better to just forget about the creeps now. Let them fester in their own cesspit of bitter self-recriminations or denial.

Probably best to keep one eye on them (and let them know that you are doing so). Left to their own devices they can come up with some really silly ideas about doing nasty things to certain people. Responsible vigilance should not be trumped by over-indifferent magnanimity.

  • Field Theory: Athletes and Dicks,

I think F1 hit its peak shortly after Senna/Villeneuve left.

I think the expression you are looking for is "were killed."

  • Field Theory: Athletes and Dicks,

Stanford should've been blown up, but it should mainly have come from the players and then the media.

Sorry, can't agree here, Haydn. My point (however badly made) is that this contretemps had no bearing on anything to do with the game and it is only the media's (and by reflection, our) salacious interest in what rich/pretty folk get up to that caused it to get any airtime.

It's just people being people. It had nothing to do with the Poms getting thumped by a made up team of "Stars". (I suppose conspiracy theorists would probably say that Stanford was trying to distract the Poms so his team would win)

Are the press suggesting that Stanford financed the whole shindig just to get a chance to romp with a few WAGs?
There just doesn't seem to be any point to any of this angle.
