  • Hard News: Political Idol, or whatever…,

Good point on Jones although there is the danger that we will discover he is not quite as clever as he thinks he is

And it may have been a good idea for Jacinda to have thrown her hat into the ring as mentioned up-thread, first to have a woman in the mix and as a chance to see if she has the grit/goods

  • Hard News: So long, and thanks for all…, in reply to Sofie Bribiesca,

Have a feeling rural people are well aware of the difference between a gelding (castrated male) and a female
I can't imagine anybody thinking they are the same thing
On the other hand someone who went to Harvard could be aware of the President Cleveland quote
    just saying

  • Southerly: Continuing After A Short Interruption, in reply to Geoff Lealand,

Presently in a house with twin boys (just turning 4) and while they look out for each other and share it, is double trouble

  • Hard News: So long, and thanks for all…,

The fact Robertson is a Wellington insider is more a problem than his sexuality, NZ is over that sort of thing
The fact that he started his run for the job by appearing on TV this morning saying Shearer was sick isn't a good look
Men used to be booted out of the old Labour party for that sort of thing

  • Hard News: Fluency, ease of manner - and…,

I wonder if john Campbell's real problem was he thought he was interviewing David Shearer
Shouting questions that must answered yes or no, petulant "so sue me" came across (to me with my inbuilt prejudices ) as some one under prepared
It as if he was channeling Andin's rant above

Politicians need to be treated with a degree of disdain. They are scum sucking lowlifes after all"

Lets remember who have to get voted in to run the country

  • Hard News: The GCSB Bill: We at least…, in reply to Russell Brown,

Fair enough but regarding "the fool" via "The Standard" comments

To Brian Edwards’ re his snippy Twitter comment…….get over yourself. The public interest as identified by the Law Society, Palmer, Salmond, Human Rights, Privacy and the rest is immeasurably more commanding than your self-accorded status as professor emeritus of New Zealand television journalism. I’m thinking “Old Fart” akshully.

  • Hard News: The GCSB Bill: We at least…, in reply to Gary Young,

    Likewise Brian Edwards via twitter

"Raving is not interviewing, John. A graceless and embarrassing performance. This from your greatest fan. Brian"

Dr Edwards who most would agree knows about interviews and can hardly said to have a right wing bias (though I don’t doubt at least one fool will claim that his conclusion shows he must have one and that he is consequently a class traitor)

  • Hard News: Tooled Up for Food, in reply to Bart Janssen,

    Attachment Attachment

Got one, not as a wedding present thank goodness
Two family cooking items the first is a marmite/casserole made by my mother in the 70s pottery craze which makes food that just doesn’t taste the same made in anything else
And a chopping board I made when first married from an old Kauri kitchen bench from the family farm that was ripped out in 1946
It has so much use that it has a loverly natural bowl shape but like Russell I was no wood worker so it is not a perfect square

  • Hard News: Who else forgot to get married?,

Quite common in some cultures to take your mother’s surname, well that is what happens in the Azores and explains why why my surname is Francis (G-g-grandma’s surname ) rather than De Sonza
    So
Emmanuel De Sonza– changed to when he left home to Francis
    Malcolm Francis–
    Couple of generations
-Malcolm Rees-Francis added his wife's name
