  • Hard News: I hope she does something interesting,

I forgot to ask earlier Russell...what on earth were you and your friend doing discussing Teresa Gatting's future in your spare time? The holidays can't have been THAT boring, surely?

How good is a real-time, daily Daily Show? I used to watch this religiously in the U.S, and it's been sorely missed since returning home. I think C4 is going to have a cracker this year, they've made some really strong programming changes. Watch this space!

  • Hard News: Bob each way,

I too grew up just around the corner from this now infamous 'street of shame', and I have to say I find all the fuss a bit...silly.

Sure, it's not the nicest street; but at the same time, there are plenty worse.

And I find it interesting that Key's discussions on this topic so far seem to ignore the fact that there are many, many dysfunctional families living in wealthier areas all around New Zealand...I attended a rather 'upper class' private high school, and I can tell you that the 'upper class' is just as messed up, if not more so, than Key's 'under class'. He's raised some valid points, but I just think his scope is far too narrow, and almost too 'easy' to be of any consequence.

  • Hard News: Land-grab in the Magic Kingdom,

Ariel was the name of The Little Mermaid...apparently. So I've been told.

  • Cracker: Games to Play at the BDO #37:…,

Maybe great minds think alike Damian?

Hang on, no that doesn't work; while Family Guy is without doubt one of the finest animated comedies ever to grace television, Mad TV is about as funny as herpes. And from what I've heard, that is not funny at all.

    Obvious it is then...

Cracker, has someone been watching Mad TV? Seem to remember a Tickle Me Emo skit from quite a while back...

  • Hard News: The Big Roundup,

Hahaha, to each their own Russell...I agree that Soundgarden were terrible, I think Chris lost his mojo when he cut his hair off.

As for the 'Punk Rock Wars'...who said they'd finished? Keep fighting the good fight...

  • Hard News: The Big Roundup,

Russell, people like Tool because...there's just so much to like. While it might not be everyone's cup of tea, once you know the process this band goes through to create their art (they don't call it music), you gain some appreciation for how unique they are...from Maynard's fascination with Sacred Geometry (a lot of their songs are constructed around this idea) to his new-found spirituality, they're a special group of performers. It's also quite impressive to note that their guitarist is responsible for all of their visuals too...and their drummer is regularly cited as being one of the best in the business; I concur.

I thought the Femmes were great, a really good way to round off what was a throughly enjoyable day. I'm pretty young, but I can still remember buying Add It Up (the first cassette I ever owned) and thinking I was so so grown up...ah, the memories...

  • Hard News: Wii Too,

I'm going to throw the cat amongst the pigeons here...I had a play with one on the weekend, and I was...underwhelmed.

Sure, it's innovative, it looks sexy and it's a bit of a laugh...but I found it lost it's appeal pretty quickly. Just too fidgety, if you put your hands down for a rest for even a split second, you're gooorn.

I can see how it'd be good for a quick bash every now and then, but it really didn't flick my switches...except for the ridiculously low price. $500 is a lot cheaper than PS3 is coming out at...

  • Random Play: It’s Only Rock’n’Roll,

$71 for Tenacious D was an absolute rort (I got my tickets for free, a-hem)...I'll admit it was an amusing show, but the venue is hardly ideal. It made me laugh when the support act's singer very proudly said he'd seen Iron Maiden play there in his younger days...I can only imagine the abomination THAT would've been.

Auckland suffers from a dismal lack of venues...I've been to shows at Stages (Video Game) Arcade on Queen Street. Imagine travelling half way around the world, and turning up to play at spacie arcade! Sure, they were cheap gigs, but there's something not quite right about watching Hot Water Music rip it up on stage while Puzzle Bobble is staring at you.
