When Dio was fronting them, IT WASN’T SABBATH, INFIDEL! Prepare to feel the wrath of my furry jockstrap.

True, but the Heaven & Hell album is still pretty good.

Also worth checking out is the classic doco Heavy Metal Parking Lot. Filmed in 1986 in the parking lot before a Judas Priest concert. A true snapshot of the fans, fashion and haircuts of the time.

  • Hard News: Dressing for the Road, in reply to Keir Leslie,

It’s also a predominantly bourgeois imagining of clothing: as something you have control over, that you are able to vary as you like.

Like any street fashion photos then?

  • Hard News: Dressing for the Road, in reply to Keir Leslie,

I mean that things like “Copenhagen chic” often brush over issues of clothing as class signifier in a rather frustrating way.

Could you elaborate on this? I though the point of the “Copenhagen chic” concept is that cycling is an integral part of day to day life that does not require special clothes. I suppose the photos used to illustrate this tend to focus on young and pretty men and women, so there is that. But it shows cycling not as a separate activity that you would "do" any more than you "do" riding on the bus or "do" driving or "do" walking.

They probably could, but that would be a sin.

  • Speaker: Not in my name, and not in his either,

The Christian churches need to a take a long hard look at themselves.

For sure, but it's also worth noting that there are no generic "Christian churches". Since most reformed churches don't fall under the "rule" of a worldwide authority, they differ from country to country and often reflect the attitudes of the countries they work in. Yes, generally more conservative, but not always completely out of step.

Here is a List of Christian denominational positions on homosexuality.

The church I'm most familiar with would be the Lutheran Church of Sweden, which allows both the officiating of same-sex marriage as well as gay clergy. Also, the current Bishop of Stockholm is an out lesbian.

  • Hard News: Thatcher, in reply to Russell Brown,

It’s amazing how many of these stories there are.

What is also amazing is that there are people who appear not to have known about these stories. A friend of mine told her story about where she was when the news of Thatcher’s resignation spread. She described a similar story to the ones told here. However, a younger aquaintance who is a Young National member also heard the story but simply refused to believe that this could have happened. His view of Thatcher only came from reading about her and her policies and he thought that she must have been seen as some sort of hero to the people of Britain.
