As a relative latecomer to PAS, I had no idea you had one todder and a new baby for the big quake David. That must have been so hard in a primal “protecting the babes” sense: you have my admiration and respect for your determined creation of a new life for you all. Bob sounds like a real character: those anarchic child pronouncements are so funny.
Foot: I second the Artemis strain relief cream. Though I would caution you to patch test it: some skins do not like it at all. And ask whether you should use it on your condition. It works on my beloved, who is a chemical sump when it comes to anti-inflammatories and me (I tolerate noting stronger than Panadol – thanks Bart: have you any links to info on that?)

re MMP: I believe that two leaders who have best understood how to work with MMP have been Rod Donald and Jim Bolger. It's a good system, and voters understand how to deliver a finely-balanced result.

I lost the rest of my response in a late edit, and need to add it to clarify my thoughts:
That is a valid point of view, but it helps no Green or Labour supporters in any way other than pouring a bucket of bile on a relationship that needs work.
I want to see mutual respect and trust between Labour and the Greens in order to get the Greens into a meaningful voice in government that reflects the votes cast for the party and candidates. That will require substantial adjustment in the Labour hierarchy’s thinking re the Greens and re the nature of MMP power-sharing.
If I were the National Party strategist, I would be actively encouraging comments like yours Craig. Division between Labour and the Greens is the way to maintain power for a third term as is the absurd “lunatic” name-calling for the Greens
– first used I think by United Future’s Marc Alexander after he lost his place in Parliament. Now adopted by conservative parties worldwide, especially those under Crosby-Textor’s wing (UK, Australia, NZ). -

Appoint a pack of attack dogs to slag off your potential coalition partners as “haters and wreckers”, tree-hugging loonie birds etc. until the day after the election, when you artlessly expect your new best friends to just GTFOI and come to Jesus.

Hell no. Unattachment to the material is coming from the most surprising people: I spent six weeks with my mother sorting through her house. The stuff was incredible: everything from my great-great-grandmother's undies to Ma's 1954 debutante dress (she hid it from me when I was in my punk years and likely to wear it out with a pair of Doc Marten's) through to 40 years of electricity bills and receipts. She found it easy to part with and was pleased to find homes for previously sacrosanct treasures where the bits and pieces were appreciated. Don't feel icky: it's helping out!

One of the great side-effects of the quakes is that markets and op-shops down here are treasure troves. People are giving away amazing things bcause they are clearing out for repairs and many people have relinquished their attachment to "stuff".
I recommend a visit if you like a good poozle.
