Front-loaders FTW!
Although. My mother just moved into a house with one supplied and has decided she'll need to get up every night at 3am just to get one load finished in time to hang it out the next day.

But isn’t it in fact literally what patronising means?
That fancy Latin education won’t do you any favours with Our Lord of the Finish Tablet, Tiso.

there’s only one way to pack a dishwasher
Does everyone else pack the cutlery tine-side down, or is that just my paranoia?

But that’s not what privilege is.
Yeah, in this particular context, that word isn't about how you as an individual were brought up, or how much money your parents had, or whatever. It's about shit you don't have to deal with because society treats your... qualities? characteristics?... as normative.

where did “tone argument” come from?
As I understand it, it comes from the silencing technique used against many feminists, in which a, uh, mansplainer will tell them ‘you’re hurting your cause by being angry; if you were just *nicer* about it then all the non-feminists would listen to you more’. And feminists responded with a) ‘actually, being nice hasn’t got us anywhere in the past’ and b) ‘we’re ALLOWED to be angry, because this issue is worth getting righteously indignant about’.
Again, it’s another totally valid concept which can occasionally be undermined by meanspirited feminist asshats.
ETA: Coincidentally, Derailing Into Whimsy is the proposed title of my as yet unwritten memoirs.

found the twitter feed from #nethui utterly compelling
+1
Can we still be friends if I say that all these "WE ARE THE FUTURE!" conferences and associated networking and whatnot make me die a little inside? I'm sure it all serves some wonderful purpose for which I will be very grateful in future years, but... ack. Not my thing. (Preceding paragraph brought to you by Doubting Tiso Industries, Inc.)
Terminology note: I think 'mansplaining' and 'patronising' actually *do* have slightly different meanings, in that the former implies a specific 'barging blindly into the conversation to immediately pontificate about an issue which everyone has been discussing for months or years already' (obviously, feminist blog comments suffered from this so much that the term was coined in response) and the latter isn't nearly so specific. But yeah, I have seen the term used... less than helpfully, recently.

a bit sensitive (no I didn't watch Modern Family
*Look*. If you're referring to my tweet, the episode was about *motherhood*. And I'm *pregnant*. And... yeah, there's no excuse for that sort of carry-on, really. Pathetic. :)
