This was a political parade, not a strike.

    Isn't the word "protest"?

Goodness me... that telecom ad really sucks, irregardless of whether it's made up or a rip off of that other (utterly charming) clip.

Some antagonism in the comments at Spareroom though.

But that doesn't matter. Because my unfocused sense of grievance and resentment is worth more than your fancy facts and numbers any day.

It has always been the way.

Off topic, but speaking of senses of grievance - has anyone come across this yet?

    What is your response?

Usually, in situations like this, my response is "It's probably not true".

    Thanks for getting more information!

I'm right about the 61000 households - that's in their annual report. They have 68000 let tenancies in all. 91% of them pay income related rents. (as at March 2007 I guess) All those numbers will have crept up in the interim.

There IS an average of 3 people per household, I'm pulling the one child out of thin air though.

I have no idea how many beneficiaries there are in total though, it could still be a very small proportion.

Sofie, state housing income-related rents apply to only a small proportion of beneficiaries.

I'd hazard a guess that there are about 61,000 households paying income related rents (about 90% of HNZC's tenants). Assuming they're all on benefits & there are an average of 3 tenants per household ( let's make it 2 & assume there's 1 child), that's 122,000.

How many beneficiaries are there in total?

Sadly, I can't be proven right or wrong on this point as National have no policy on Housing; none

I seem to recall Bob Clarkson announcing he'd be standing for Tauranga now that National had formulated its housing policy & he was happy with it.

It never turned up & Clarkson dropped out. Hmm.
