  • Southerly: Bob's Top Five,

    2. Do compulsory helmet laws have a net beneficial effect on the overall health of society?

But that isn't really how we work out these decisions, so it's a bit of a red herring.

  • Speaker: KICK IT! End of Act One,

Yeah --- & there's no rule to say you have to fight to stay upright once you've been fouled, and to be honest I've gone down when I could've stayed up because I was sick to death of getting kicked and the ref not protecting me.

Refs are fallible, and that's part of the game.

  • Speaker: KICK IT! Vuvuzelas and Jambulanis,

That was possible the most dramatic game of the Cup so far & say what you like about football, full credit to the All Whites for playing with real grit and determination. That one goal was bloody amazing.

  • Hard News: Costly indeed,

I am unsure if people'd remember what they put on one card or the other five years ago. (But yes this hasn't been handled well & Goff needs to show some leadership on this and make it clear Labour won't tolerate misuse of public funds.)

  • Radiation: Geek, annoyed,

The Roman Emperor claimed to have a Republic, so I can't see why it should always be illogical.

  • Hard News: Music's emerging digital market,

In a culture that marketed Elvis as the King of Rock n Roll? Seems pretty same-old from this neck of the woods.

Well, yeah, same old. That is after all the criticism.

The idea of a reigning king of guerilla art is rather odd, I have to say.

  • Pass the crisps: UK Election watch,

You know, the British have had minority governments in the past; in fact, they have had minority governments dependent on minor national parties, which looks like a probable outcome, which we haven't. It might be worth not getting too lecture-y.

  • Hard News: Climate science and the media,

    Wow, you're so clever.

Look, it's the way Russell phrases it, so yeah. The point is that you can explain data in many different ways: the world is underdetermined by experience. The privileging of data like that isn't particularly useful, and isn't how science works.

  • Hard News: Climate science and the media,

"Your data conflicts with my ideology, therefore your data must be wrong."

You claim that the world is yellow; however I can see it isn't, so you have jaundice, so your data is wrong. Look! my ideology trumps your data!

(& Rich, the Manhattan Project consisted of the scientific Establishment of two continents. & it wasn't a particularly isolated occurrence either:`I aim at the stars (but sometimes I hit London'?)
