Radler? More citrus than cloying honeyspice.

I'm not a fan of Monteiths Radler - it tastes like beer with lime cordial added (which is pretty much is). Yeuch!

I'd be more inclined to just make a radler using my favourite lager and some, oh, Phoenix lemonade.

The Wikipedia shandy page has many suggestions for versions of beer 'n' lemonade from around the world.

  • Hard News: History is now,

"Fok you I won't do wot u tell me!"

    — That guy from Rage Against the Machine. They're quite good, eh. I saw them at Big Day Out that time - wicked as man. The whole pit was goin' off. I would rate that in the top 5 of all the live bands I've seen. Probably Metallica would be #1 or Guns n Roses in '94. And Pearl Jam would be #3 or #4.

  • Up Front: Absence of Malice,

I've always thought that people who claim to be victims of "tall poppy syndrome" are those who, after having achieved some success, seem to think they should therefore be off-limits for any criticism, and conclude that the criticism is coming from people who are envious of them, not that they've done anything worth being criticised.

The New York Times has published its Buzzword of 2008, which has a few in common with the PA list. No rofflenui, but a terrorist fist jab.

Awesome will eventually be replaced by another superlative when awesome loses its power.

    "Bob, that steak was awesome!"
"Just awesome? It was better than that! It was bloody outstanding*!"

And then our bank teller/Glassons salesgirl/barista will describe the transaction as "outstanding".

Personally, I'm stuck in the '80s with "choice".

    * For example.

  • Current Status: Holidays,

Speaking of tuis, last week at the final Electric Quiz for 2008 at the Southern Cross, I accidentally won an orange and black Tui hat-scarf.

So yesterday I threw it in my suitcase and brought it to my parents' place, where it is now being enjoyed by one of the cats. The hat provides a nice kitty-shaped based, and the scarf bits build up support at the sides. Well, somone's having a merry Christmas.

BTW, that's the same episode that I'm talking about right at the top of this thread. (Only the YouTube clips I linked to back then then have been removed now. It's a great episode, though!)

  • Hard News: The Interesting Party,

And the words "Great Blend" might please some of you.

Oh, that would be very pleasing!

It's been a choice year. I love the community we've got here and that PA System is a pleasant place to be, whether discussing something quite serious or just having some lolz.

    And...

Now, I was thinking of the perfect PA commission for you [Mr Litterick] yesterday. I'd send you on an architectural and philosophical tour of the former Tourist Hotel Corporation hotels.

Hells yeah! This needs to happen!

  • Up Front: Absence of Malice,

I only ever wagged in the 7th form (Hillcrest High School, 1992) because until then school had been quite fun.

Suddenly the 7th form came along and things were either hard or boring. The only class I looked forward to attending was the 6th Form Cert drama class I was also doing.

It turned out that going to the graveyards down by the river with my friend Renee and listening to Sonic Youth was more fun than most of the bursary subjects I was, in theory, studying. And, strangely enough, it served me better in the long term.

    Hey, Goo. What's new?

  • Hard News: Deadly Exuberance,

Recently I was at the post office and checked my PO box, where I found a letter from my bank telling me that they'd pre-approved me for an increased credit card limit.

Hilariously, I was at the post office that day because I was there to open a Kiwibank account, which I did, including a credit card with my old limit.
