Although I'm not always perfectly punctual myself, so I can sympathise with stretched media admin people at this time...

any other freelancer (still one word) noticed payment-delay creep?
I'm seeing it here, and overseas.
I freelance review only on a very, very minor scale with NZ publications, so don't know how relevant this is - but I have had to follow up at least once on payments that were supposed to be paid at the start of the month following publication and didn't appear until a month later. In all likelihood these could have been simple paperwork (emailwork?) errors, and the amounts were not significant, but nevertheless I'm a little more proactive than I was before.

Tell us more Russell!
I'm all ears as well - specially as I never read the Sunday papers - but surely if it could be said without repercussions Russell would be saying it outright...
Although I doubt it can be as bad as what I'm imagining right now (but, note carefully, not publicly saying - hi Team Veitch!).

Apologies if the above soured a fun pastime for anyone.

I now look forward to working with the charities who I love and that is the best thing about this sentence, I can get back to working with the charities and doing my community service with charities that I am passionate about.
Ccommunity service on the box, I'd wager - fine image-rebuilding stuff.
Well. A nagging sense of having been screwed followed by forceful, supposedly compensatory tugs on the public heartstrings - it's the Great Media Veitcharound of 2009.

Looks like I missed a great night out. Curse this April flu. I would have loved to have met you all had I not been a sniveling contagious wreck - hopefully there'll be another Social soon.

Was just reading up on the Bradford City FC fire in 1985. Police and fans were apparently working together well there, but when an entire stand burns down in four minutes... the entire thing was a mass of wood and bitumen, and fire extinguishers were also not available there, in order to prevent them being used as missiles in-game by rowdy spectators.

Reminds me: I remember King noting in On Writing that he'd been given a hard time by critics of the Green Mile less because John Coffey (of the Green Mile) shared initials with another divine healer than because it was just so obvious a device. His response: "What is this, rocket science? I mean, come on , guys." Symbolism and direction of your audience doesn't need to be ultra-obscure to work out.

Recognition in the sense of taking seriously as a threat, rather than any kind of esteem, obviously. I've lost my touch with this internets thing.
