So then I told the story to Matthew, and he was all, "Yeah, I do that all the time."
Or speed up to walk in front of women on their own, or in places where your following them could be seen as threatening. Or cross the road. I find the instinct natural, which I guess is easy to say, but I've always struggled with being tall as well, so generally lean back or crouch in close proximity to others.
Being intimidated by people bigger and scarier than me at school might have some influence on this, but also it bugs me to think I could instill fear in others by virtue of existing. So I try to avoid it.
This conversation has been very hard to watch. I agreed with Russell up thread when he talked of empathy, because I was trying to look at it from his point of view as a parent, and the other parents who describe their experiences. We hope our children will turn out Ok, but who can give us a guarantee? Therefore, empathy. Logical leap?
Megan, FWIW, I appreciate your being here, and coming back to explain. And Danielle, I was going to play The Human League, but can we take it as read?

It wouldn't be Christmas without frosty and Calvin and Hobbes...

It might even require some empathy.
This. Times a million.

Capture: The Castle, in reply to
The Māori is sung by Nurse Wiki Katene of Porirua (Ngāti Toa).”
I saw that come up on the Māori Battalion Facebook page, along with the Christmas messages. Quite astonishing, and incredibly moving. Which lead me back to the 28th Maori Battalion website, and this story about Christmas 1943;
As promised Sir Apirana Ngata had achieved the impossible. In the very Christmas week 1943, out of the blue so to speak, two trucks arrived and unloaded rusty battered old cream cans still showing Ngati Porou, Whanau a Apanui and Tuhoe dairy factory supply numbers, and the familiar brass plate of the makers Alex Harvey & Sons. There were delicacies well covered in pork fat; tuna, paka tahu, mutton bird, karengo, kahawai, pipi; and so on and on. Te Rau Aroha [the canteen truck] became the assembly and dispatch point to get these gifts up to the front line and for Christmas dinner at B Ech.
This was written by my Grandfather, who drove the Canteen truck in the Italian Campaign. He was wounded shortly after this, but made it home, and was with us for all the Christmases after, until 2006.
If you’ll forgive the reminiscences.

This one. Isn’t it cool?
Extremely cool. Most jealous. And Sofie, that looks like a great Car show. Hmm, how can I make it up there for 2 Jan?
Keep 'em coming folks, only 4 more days in our contest, in case anyone forgot. ;-)
