  • OnPoint: Bar brawls aren't my thing,

Followed by a poll asking whether it is appropriate for public representatives to begin every parliamentary session with a spiritual blessing?

    Didn't think so.

The abortion argument undermines the "help help we're about to be swamped by the teeming hordes" argument, though. Even if you do make some effort to get the statistics right, you can't have it both ways.

Apparently it's far far worse to be called racist, than it is to use patently false statistics to advocate for one race to be treated differently to the rest.

I always thought of The Lost Islands when all that stuff about Pitcairn Island came up last year. I suspect both Survivor and season 3 of Lost have poached a concept or two from the older show.

Secret Valley was another Aussie staple. I know the words to the themesong better than Waltzing Matilda, which it's based on.

On the American front, Terrahawks, Stingray, and a remake of a Japanese puppet thing Starfleet were fun. I loved the science shows too - 3,2,1 Contact and The Edison Twins.

  • What do you want them to play at your funeral?,

I can't help thinking of the excruciating funeral scene in Love Actually reading some of the cheerier numbers in this topic :-)

The obvious choice for the fan boys and girls amongst us is Shore/Walsh/Lennox's Into the West. Not the Yulia version.

"Under the Mountain" was the scariest thing I ever saw as a kid - I loved every second of it, even though I had to skip a couple of the chapters when I was finally given the book. They should rerelease it, it's obviously got a place in people's hearts.

It was just one of a number of what I recall as very good NZ kids programmes - they probably wouldn't stand up well against The Tribe or that other one with Tim Balme and Danielle Cormack in it these days, but there were heaps of them. The Kids from OWL, Terry and the Gunrunners, Children of the Dog Star, Fire Raiser - lots of Margaret Mahy and Maurice Gee.

I'd think I'd died and gone to heaven if Weta and co took on The Halfmen of O one day.

I like the Goodnight Kiwi youtube - any chance of a Keep Cool till After School one?
