  • Hard News: So far from trivial,

The full stomach churning interview interview with Paul "Oprah" Holmes.

The man is beyond belief. No amount of PR or fawning by Holmes can stop a man determined to paint himself as the victim in spite of overwhelming odds. "Veitchy", denial ain't just a river in Egypt.

BTW, Women's Refuge's annual appeal is on Friday July 25. Given the strength of feeling here, some of you may like to organise a little fundraiser or a collection from your work place. You can also volunteer to be a street collector.

    the public relations managed 'apology'

Veitch needs to get a new PR company to write his statements. Or maybe not.

    - He "let" her come to his house for dinner.

    - The money was for the "loss of income and distress". Excuse me but several broken bones resulting from a vicious assault and a subsequent breakdown qualify as a bit more than distress.

    - He "regrets" (three times) that he "lashed out" but no sign of "shame" and "domestic violence".

"I had no wish to breach that confidentiality.."
"I have no desire to put Kristin through.."

    - It was his victim who wanted it hushed up and he's only being supportive. He's in fact a gentleman.

In the long period after the event took place we remained in contact with each other.

    - Presumably this was during the six long months it took her to recover from her injuries. Maybe he sent her the usual flowers and chocolate too.

counselling which enabled me to form the relationship I now have with my wife, Zoe..She has been completely supportive and I am grateful beyond words for that support and for her love.

He could have at least given the woman a chair, rather than make her stand mutely behind him.

Should be interesting to see if he's welcomed back into the old boys' network after a few more PR machinations. Yechh.

Hey Tze Ming, thanks for all the laughs! You've definitely earned a session in the champagne room! Looking forward to the book.

  • Speaker: Transformers: Less than meets…,

When I was a little girl, I had one Transformer (one of those green construction equipment ones), that I think had been bought for me because I was jealous that my brother had some.

When my 18yo was a little girl, she was so into Transformers that many of her illustrations in school depicted transformers in battle mode (while I cringed a bit wondering what the teachers must be thinking). This may possibly explain why she's currently undergoing the Army's fearsome Nemesis program for officer cadets.

In spite of this killjoy review, I'm really looking forward to taking my youngest to see the movie this week and reviewing it for our ex-Transformer gal -she's big on Warhammer these days- when she emerges (hopefully) from the frozen wastelands of Waiouru.

  • Yellow Peril: Asian Angst: is it time to…,

It feels particularly good to be Asian today as opposed to steaming (hah!) as I was when I read Asian Angst.

Re Coddington in the HoS: A good friend, journalist David Cohen, tells me we share the privilege of tucking ourselves into bed at nights to read our Press Council decisions.

I'm curious as to how David Cohen feels about Asian Angst. By wilfully mentioning him in the first para, is Coddington trying to imply that he supports her mad racist views?

Nice one, Tze Ming et al. Kapow!

Had an Indian haircut to go with my Indian shirt and pants. I am now virtually indistinguishable from an ordinary Indian, except for my skin and my face

Keith old chap, you know those Assamese militants you referred to in passing a while back? With your unIndian face and skin, you might well pass for one of them. Assam (which btw is in North-East India, never North India) is one of the Seven Sister States of NE India where the natives all look like you, that is, chinky. Some of them might even live in Chennai would you believe.

I'm sick of Indian food already. The Chinese food is pretty dire - the first noodle that I had was packet noodles with a bowl of lime-cordial curry. I ended up having steak - beef steak - in Bangalore. It was good, or as Homer would say, sacrilicious.

Hmm......methinks you need to return to civilisation immediately. Leave the wilds of India to scavenging Scandinavians and come back to the land of the long white steak.

  • Hard News: Grandpa,

Brought a lump to the throat. Read it in the midst of writing shamefully belated xmas email to family overseas. Will paste it. Thank you.

  • OnPoint: Who's the real Dick, then?,

Oh I see, she only drew attention to the "irrelevant" low pregnancy rate out of selfless concern for teenage Asians' health. Reminds me of that HoS bit where she hilariously claims she's not an Asian hater seeing as how she once had an Asian homestay student (who presumably paid for the privilege). She needs to stand in front of a mirror so she can see how pathetically transparent she is.
