Skype's built on P2P as well. How about utilities like Dropbox?

  • Hard News: Arts and letters for Christchurch,

Tales for Canterbury is a new fiction anthology with all profits donated to the NZ Red Cross Earthquake appeal. It's available for pre-order now. There's a great mix of both local and international authors including Cat Connor, Neil Gaiman, Patty Jansen, Tim Jones, Ripley Patton and Jeff VanderMeer.

    Jason,

Creative Commons is definitely a part of the next generation of copyright, but I doubt the big labels and studios will buy into it. Then again, there's a good number of scifi authors now who simultaneously release copyright books on paper and CC-licensed ebooks. Not sure if that really maps for music, since there's still a significant difference between a paper book and an ebook. MP3 vs CD, not so much.

  • Hard News: Get yer avatars out,

A big thank you to Russell and everyone else who made the blend happen. It was my first and I don't think my brain has quite recovered yet.

  • Hard News: High Noon,

So what do people make of this?

Can a NZ ISP look at your internet traffic?

Is it going to be possible for an ISP to check your traffic? Is this already covered in an ISPs terms of service?

  • Hard News: The Public Bad,

Just been having a chat with a friend who is a lawyer-to-be. He believes this law is a breach of section 25 of the Bill of Rights act - you are innocent until proven guilty. He recommends that if you are writing to your local MP. ask them if they think the law breaches the Bill of Rights act and if not, why?

When I tried to chop down the pohutakawa in my back garden to make room for a new carport, I got a visit from the police! Why aren't they out stoping all the boy racers or peddoes or something?

Then my neigbours put up this bloody ivory tower and I cant get sky anymore. Who gave them resource consent for that? And they're all on the dole, I bet. But if I tried to subdivide my section to put ten flats on it, i bet it would take a hundred years to get approbal! Didn't we fight a war to stop communisim?

Bugger you lot. If John Key doesn't give me a tax cut RIGHT NOW I'm off to the Gold Coast. Or Dubai. They know how to treet boy racers in Dubai and I can chop down all the pohutokawas I want!

  • Southerly: E=mc^2... Your Views,

    Good news everybody!

While there seems to be no way to make the Herald's Your Views page go away entirely, you can at least cover it with unicorns and sparkly rainbows!

Now if I can just find a way to do the same to 3 News...

Yanno, if someone mentions this column on Herald's Your Views, it might be front page news. Or is that only when Don Brash writes in?
