Hi Keith - I heard you on The Panel yesterday when you talked about this idea of hugging PB.
I pictured what this hug might look like and it reminded me of my dear old dad.
My dad is a NZ First supporter; he thinks Winston is great. He's 80 and has lived through hardships I can't imagine. He's worked hard all his life and has a big family.
I'm his youngest child. Everyone in our family loves my father dearly. He's a great, honest, down to earth man.
But change frightens him; just like you said, it's not race that's the issue...it's change.
I tell my dad I love him every time I talk to him; he tells me he loves me in return. It took him years to do so, mind; and many of my siblings still have never uttered the "l" word in his presence.
Back to hugs.
Dad doesn't do hugs...it's strange, but he just doesn't like the intimacy.
Rather than hugs, maybe it should be dialogue. A little bit at a time.
People who resist change find it a lot easier...

This interview with Rickards, in my humble opinion, is one of the most outrageous things to have happened in NZ media this year.
Where are the people standing up and saying, no, this isn't a race issue; actually this is a gender issue.
If Louise N and the other female victims had been men, would the reaction be the same by Maori leaders?

Parents are completely reactionary, which is EXACTLY why people like me don't respond to what you say.
I'm not criticising parents.
I'm saying it's a job not everyone is suited to.

Unfortunately, it's a job you can't easily be fired from. Major problem.Perhaps prospects should consider more carefully....

Hosking - it doesn't sound at all humorous. For many people, it's not.
I can understand why the rates of child abuse are so bad in this country.
People who simply shouldn't chose parenthood, do.
It's supposedly "the biggest decision you make".
If this is the case, why is so little consideration given to it?

In our comfortable Western existence, much consideration is given to life-changing decisions, with the exception of one - parenthood.
I'm so sick and tired of people complaining about how hard it is to be a parent.

As usual, I came to this discussion waaaaayyyyy too late, but the Herald reporting of this incident is an almost exact fulfilment of "prophecies" I heard several nutty AOG pastor's spout back in the late 80's...they obviously hadn't moved on from the 1977 incident outlined by Mr Brown in his original post.
As an impressionable teenager, I was petrified after hearing on several occasions at pentecostal events that a militant Maori group was going to start a Civil war in NZ.
One guy (who was not dissimilar to Brian Tamaki in retrospect) claimed that it was going to happen in the 1990's; that it would happen so fast and we'd be so unprepared for it that it would destroy our country as we know it.
If I remember correctly the very scary Bill Subritzsky (related to the incredibly wealthy Subritzsky shipping family) even "prophesied" this uprising was going to happen.
Oh my.....can you imagine the fieldday these churches are going to have this side of Christmas??!??!!?
Perhaps only ex-pente's like me will understand.....!
