Hello, is this the police?'
Yes it is. How can we help you?'
'I'm calling to report my neighbour, Rangi. He's hiding
cocaine inside his firewood!''Thank you very much for the call.'
Early next morning, police officers descend on Rangi's
house in great numbers. They search the house and then go out to the
shed where the firewood is kept.Using axes, they bust open every piece
of firewood but they find no cocaine. They swear at Rangi and leave. The phone rings at Rangi's house.
'Hey, Rangi, Did the cops come?'
'Yeah!'
'Did they chop up your firewood?'
'Yeah.'
'Happy Birthday bro!'

I commute by bike and the do some off road stuff in the weekend...for the simlar reasons i.e. can't do the gym and working fitness into my day. Coming down Ngaio gorge at the mo is freezing (ain't no sunshine as Bill W would say).
Thorndon Quay-southbound - has been turned into a cycle way /no parking from 7.00 - 9.00am but is only partially working due to the start/stop nature of restrictions. In maybe 500m the these change 4 times to cater to early morning businesses. I can appreciate why but currently it hasn't made it any safer for a cyclist.
Favourite ride at present due to the wet weather has gotta be cycling up to the radome above Brooklyn and down to redrocks...great views of the kaikouras and nice weekend blowout.

"Don't you think we've got enough real problems to deal with, without getting into "little boy who cries wolf, again" mode?"
Yep plenty of problems...but, you know, Tim Grosser (if I remember correctly) stating on NatRad that it'll be looked at again post election gives that boy nervous bowel movements

and I guess the sometimes talked about state asset sale post next election will be a shot in the arm for books in the short term but will (most?)probably stuff NZ in the longer term.

Having worked for a few years in both the UK and NZ teaching systems I think heading down the UK route re literacy and numeracy hours is horrifying. Most teachers i the UK dream of our (NZ) integrated approach...whether it is the embedded literacy in an art class or what ever the subject.
Gawd, I'm already bemoaning the tiny amount of art/music/creativity happening in our local school and now I sense it only is going to decrease. Sure the pedagogy in the 70s/80s got some things 'slightly' wrong with the lack of teaching basic math/english rules like multiplication tables but ... really!

Very intersting reading, ...it immediatley brought back memories of the Wunderbar(sp?) and the table soccer there ...nazis vs jews if I remember the news correctly ..

Congratulations ...always like your writing and reviews....and just in time for those thinking about getting in early for that Christmas shopping! Well done.

"If you're going to include the 'in kind' support, which seems fair enough" ...
Quite often in-kind isn't counted or used in this way as the value of in-kind is subjective.
Thanks Rick ..for responding, engaging and most of all volunteering
