Merc..Oh Merc! I don't know what to make of your rant. Anyone know a cryptographer..someone who can decipher the code behind Merc's word..It gives me the creeps!
And dear Robyn G. Don't scrunch your panties too much over Russell's column. At best, it's the work of a born cynic...someone who'd constantly see snakes in every bush. At worst, all the whiskies that'd he'd imbibed over the years is influencing his writings!

Do I sense that the wheels are coming off....Stay grounded, Merc..stay grounded. That's the trouble with you intellectual types. Keep your intellectual nous for the research labs and academia.
Russell, cherry juice is a great idea for gout. Even the fresh cherries work, especially the black cherries. Just munch on a bunch. My dad swears by it and his gout was so effectively controlled, he could eat or drink anything he wanted, so long as he took his black cherries, which he'd faithfully stored in the ice box in his Chevy truck.
And, Russell get this book called "Nutrient Timing" written by some Prof. of Kinesiology from the U. of Texas. It was written in 2004 and debunks most of the crap that is written about metabolic disorders and iinsulin resistance. It is such cutting edge and ground breaking stuff that many of the leading supplement corps. have designed supplements based on the findings in this book. Apparently, the idea is to take high glycemic carbs with a bit of protein (ratio of 4:1) within a 45 minute window after intense exercise. Only low glycemic foods should be consume after this window.
This will correct the metabolic disorders that most of us eventually and you are obviously suffering from - insulin resistance and gout. And hey, MCT's are strongly advised.. I guess I don't have to tell you which oily source of MCT is my preferred choice. Instead of insulin resistance, we'd develop insulin sensitivity!
I've tried the advice and found my metabolism has skyrocketed..the great thing is that the metabolism stays high even when you're resting and sleeping!

merc...or is it Dougal? I thought that you eat only sugar?
Sugar is baaad...baaad for your immune system. Try palm oil. It's rich in antioxidants, toco this and that and trans fats free too!!
Oops, I've used that prohibited & dreaded oily word of mass destruction again! Try P.O....ok merc? Try P.O!

There are none so blind...as those who dare not see
Unless, you are born again...of course, you will not see!
And, like the river, it will flow.....
And Ben, your prose is too cryptic for me!
As for Che and that bloke who sounds remarkably like my favourite automobile, are you both sure that you're not Longfellow or Wilde in your previous incarnation? Or... Dylan, perhaps
-
Well said Ben, well said! Ultimately, it is belief in the issue that matters. Believe. Repent and believe! Remember,
there are none so blind -
Russell, I'm equally flattered that you've made such strenuous efforts to trace my posts. However, how are they inconsistent with the contents of paragraph 2 & 3 of my last post? And all told, less than 10 posts, right?
In any event, I'm beginning to like you, I mean, the total pakage. Russell as scribe, whisky and cheese connoisseur, cynic and all. If I should ever be in your neck of the woods, can I call to say hello.. and perhaps, share in some of your much heralded whisky and cheeseboard. I could bring along some Red Dog...
-
Major Charles Emerson Winchester..er..Robin here. Hey, good old Major Winchester was my hero, my alter ego!
Relevance is not the issue here but, rather the exigency of the issue is. I was just trying to persuade Russell to switch track to a more important topic, palm oil and health rather than just whisky and cheese.
Perhaps, I'm just the sort to butt into a conversation and try to make others gravitate towards more important issues. Does that make me asinine or a social misfit? I dunno! Maybe, that's why I'm not that much of a party animal. A night out with my buds at a microbrewery is my idea of fun. And the Red Dog micro is simply awesome!

Now that I'm done with my rant, let me tell you how much I enjoy reading the posts in your blog. I really do! The dry wit, the cutting remarks, the turn of phrase.... it's a real treat after a hard day's night! Maybe, whisky and blue cheese may not be such a bad idea after all.
-
All good bloggers are imbued with a healthy dose of cynicism and dear Russell, you are no exception! I can respect that.
However, can you respect that there are also people who subscribe to health ideals that are, I'd concede, not exactly mainstream. For one, I'd been happily ingesting colostrum and creatin, long before it became accepted good sense and at a time when research was just appearing that creatin was good for you. Remember the scare mongers then - the pronouncements from medical authorities that creatin was, as yet unproven and, possibly unsafe!
Today, 10 years later, creatin is the top selling food supplement in the market and no side effects have been reported. A recent research report even found that it was good for your heart. So, why the cynicism on palm oil?
What does that tell you about people like me? Killjoy or someone bent on staying on the right side of cutting edge nutritional research and spreading the good word?
Finally, 16 cents per post? I've probably put in a max of ten posts on this issue. Do I appear to be someone who'd be bothered to earn a paltry $1.60 or any sum for that matter, without frevent belief in the issue? Perhaps, the poor demented soul who even dares suggest that, could do with $1.60! Would that be enough for a whiff of whisky or blue veined cheese?

It's certainly quite a bitch keying in this reply perched on my La-Z-Boy whilst balancing my notebook on my lap with my bottle of Shiraz next to my elbow.
Crash! That's the sound of my ego landing on the floor after being called a killjoy!
Killjoy or not, I've been involved in health and fitness pursuits for the past 10 years. To see Astroturf used in this context is still new to me, just as whisky and cheesemongers were. The only drink that I've consumed that's harder than my Shiraz is my Bud and the only cheese that I swear by is Wisconsin.
But, seriously! Beats me how an oil that is supposedly rich in MCT's can ever be labeled as saturated? That's the same thing they said of coconut oil and all other "tropical oils". But hey, I take a tablespoonful of coconut oil and palm oil now to unclog my arteries from years of munching Big Macs and B Kings. The latest research shows that they are both rich in MCT's and antioxidants. Heck, palm oil's content in vitamin E alone shows that it is rich in the full spectrum of alpha, beta, gamma & delta tocopherols and tocotrienols. No other source contains all of them! Where did I get this info? The Palm Oil Truth Foundation's site!
You may be right that the Palm Oil Truth Foundation may be a front for American manufacturers or the Malaysian palm oil industry. However, that does not negate the wonderful work that they are doing in propagating the truth about the oil.
It is important to keep a level head and an unjaundiced eye on the issue. So much disinformation has been spread, either deliberately or as a result of blind citation of "old and outdated research", it is, to me a blessing in disguise that an organization is setting the record straight!
Killjoy or not, I'll be most happy when bloggers like you, whom I've ardently followed keeps an open mind!
