Awesome LCD Soundsystem! I 'm probably going to have to attempt a reliving of my youth and get up to Auckland for this one. May not hitch-hike this time though. What with us becoming apparently the most crime-ridden place on earth according to Mr McVicar this morning on the NatRad.

Brunei? Isn't everything paved with gold?
Know next to nothing about the place, but I can tell you that when you're in Sabah you should check out Pilau Tiga (otherwise known as Survivor Island - one of those unfortunate "it's been on the telly, so that's what everyone calls it now" things) which is south of Kota Kinabalu by a few hours drive. Awesome beach, and a fun mud hotpool at the top of the island (oh, and Snake Island - where all the snakes go).
Or, if you're feeling a little more energetic try walking up the mountain. It's an overnight trip, is pretty cheap and gives A-MAZING views. It's the highest peak in SE Asia and is worth the climb.
    Orrrr, go diving somewhere.
    Or visit the Orangutangs.
Did that sound like something from the Visit Malaysia promo? Sorry, just got back from there and had an awesome time. I've been generally trying to entice people to go over there for trips. Sabah doesn't get the tourist trade quite as much as the rest of Malaysia, mostly 'cos it's seen as remote, so it's a bit more laid back and quiet.

Hmmm, yes, hadn't considered the singing aspect.....

Perhaps if one of those voice-tube thingies that Peter Frampton attached to his guitar was installed on the ukelele that could perhaps dampen the effect.

Probably just make it worse though.

playing recorder at primary school could driveanyone to despair.

Are they still doing this? It can't be good for the kids or the teachers.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the first to suggest this, but is there any other instrument that kids could learn that's cheap and easy? The ukelele???

  • Stories: Injuries,

Does that mean my brother's painful story of a mountain bike, it's cross bars and walking very very strangely for a week afterwards is out of the question. His delicates were, I swear, blue (according to his wife).

Damn, looks like I told it.

    good survivors

I'd point it more in the direction of very very lucky survivors with a knack for getting themselves hurt

  • Stories: Injuries,

I normally just lurk around here, but this conversation is pretty inspiring, especially since I'm pretty sure they were going to name the new A&E wing at Wellington hospital after my brothers and I. Most ridiculous injury, of oh so many? At a friends birthday party I'd imbibed a little too much - so far so normal. Also, as per normal, I was busting some big old moves on the dance floor (yes, I'm one of those twits) to Aha. Unfortunately, I was wearing a pair of clod-hoppery like shoes that seemed cool at the time and added another inch or two to my height. What they also provided was that extra bit of leverage, so that when I went down on my knees during the "TAAAAAKE MEEEE OOOONNNNNNN" highlight, my knee wasn't up to the task.

    POP.

    Ow.

Quick trip down the 'ole After Hours where I as diagnosed as having pulled a muscle or something. Given some pain-killers and sent on my way. Turns out I'd actually torn the back off my kneecap and dislocated the damn thing.

I can never really listen to Aha anymore without wincing a little.
