I haven't posted here in a long time, but I always enjoy reading the posts - great range, well-written etc etc. But how bloody depressing to read the responses to this post. Every media report about National fucking up somehow turns into "but Labour is hopeless because they didn't take advantage of it" the reprinting of government press releases on the Dompost front page quickly turns into "Labour isn't doing well responding to the budget." And now it's happening on HERE. Let's debate the substance of a budget that was setting the country up for tax cuts and not addressing the reduction in support for the superannuation fund (Bill English was pathetic about that on RNZ - he couldn't recall the figures...), or housing or poverty or education (except more charter schools) or health (reducing funding) etc etc. Thanks Rob, for giving an alternative view, I don't care what your stripe is, keep it up. We need to hear from you.

I hear you. Can I tell you though that having a job that's YOURS and filling your head with other things is so liberating. My daughter is now 30 (jeeeez) and lives in her house round the corner, with amazing carers who come and go. We have no services - we just make it up as we go along. Instead of a job she goes to loud action movies, cruises the aisles at Bunnings, or goes for rolls along the beach. She comes home for Sunday lunch and the whanau pop in and see her. When I push her home she knows more people on the street than I do. Thank you individualised funding.
I'm telling you this because there are ways you can reclaim your life, and forget all the shit that systems, and services, and experts, and plans dish up endlessly. It's been tricky for us at times - and sometimes we've had to deal with risks that would make your hair stand on end - but we get there because we do it for love and for family. -
I've been a member for years. I will be voting! Agree leadership isn't the only issue and will input into the review as well. As I did last time.

I've been composing a post re David Cunliffe all day. I was going to put it on The Standard because I was frustrated at the nasty, one-eyed, posts on there. Then I saw the link to this - exactly what I was going to say. I posted leaflets in the bloody rain, talked on doorsteps till I was blue in the face, hounded young people to register etc. I also voted for Cunliffe in the leadership election.
No more. If Cunliffe gets in I'm off to the Greens, with all my whanau and all my mates. He won't get Labour over the line - he doesn't cut through and appeal to those people the party needs to get over the line. Simple as that. -
I agree. There's a buzz about them today and being unconventional will build on that courage/creative feeling people are beginning, ever so tentatively, to develop.

The poll in the media today says JK is doing well with young, male Aucklanders. Who presumably aren't at home on a Friday night watching the box. And presumably the handshake didn't bother them either. Or Rena. An hour on the radio would've hit the spot though.

My dad was in the cathedral yesterday and was missing until 6ish last night. Worst thing was the TV3 reporter wandering in to the cathedral and chatting away about "if there are people in here they're under there..." How he was allowed in there I do not know. Felt like he was walking on dad's grave.
Dad eventually found in hospital, covered in cuts and bruises but well enough to go home to my frantic mum. Thankfully she had no power and wasn't seeing the telly. -
Why is this government focusing on those on welfare? What about the failing export sector? The exodus of our young and talented, our deficit, our S and P rating? Welfare reform and tax cuts? pathetic and won't stop us sliding into Ireland and Greece territory.
