Hard News: That escalated quickly ..., in reply to
I agree it's been hard to find out what Labour's policies are if you're not looking for yourself or attending Labour meetings. Andrew gave an excellent speech to over 200 people in Carterton a few weeks ago and it was a real eye opener to most people there.
I know it's easy to blame the media - but it does seem rather obvious that Andrew was pretty much starved of media oxygen from the moment his honeymoon period finished.
And then, I heard Clare Robinson say on radio the other day that Jacinda's honeymoon didn't have long to go, because once we enter the election period the media is required to become fair and balanced! And here was me thinking that that was what they were meant to be doing all the time. -
I've had two sleepless nights since I gave up coffee about two years ago - and the sleepless nights were both in strange beds. I can't cope with a strange bed on the first night. Sleep well the second.

Hard News: Moving right along?, in reply to
Well I agree with you Craig, so the minority's expanding.

Thanks Graeme. I hope the journalist, who produced the interesting factoid and then glossed over it, is still investigating and there's more detail to come.

More than that, does it constitute blackmail?
My thoughts exactly. And if so, Graeme...?

A piece by Kirsty Johnston in the paper this morning (Oct 28), head-lined 'Chuang feels 'much better' now', had, hidden half-way through, what I thought was a startling piece of news:
Wewege admitted yesterday that he passed on the information about the affair to blogger Cameron Slater, who employed journalist Stephen Cook to write a story. He also released intimate photos of Chuang, in what Cook says was insurance in case she didn't co-operate. -
Well thank goodness for you, Russell - that's a great piece of history recorded there! I was living in Auckland at the time and knew about it, of course - but your article has filled in a lot of gaps.
-
Oh - I like that blog! Thanks Russell. James Ritchie's article was insightful (as is usually the case with James) and what an interesting line-up of contributors. My only problem was that it wouldn't let me register. Either it thinks I'm an error, or I was in error or they need to fix up the registration page.

I think the issue of right and wrong was made irrelevant by the Government's amazingly wrong decision to change employment law unilaterally and undemocratically - and to cover up Equity's withdrawal of their black ban which happened before the march against Equity and before the law change. See CTU Press release.

No sunshine here yesterday. We were going to go to the races at Tauherenikau, but too cold and I slept badly the night before, so pottered - doing sudoku and all the other puzzles I like in the Dompost. Did a bit of washing and ironing - honestly, even I don't want to know this - and listened to Matinee Idle for a while. Added some words to the slow-grow novel. Emailed a few people. Typed up the tennis club minutes. Walked the dog and the daughter's - it was cool so daughter's 16 year old dog agreed to come out for a slightly longer walk than usual round the park, talked to the grandchildren and their friends on way home. With dinner watched Rawiri Paratene's insightful and very personal Nga Tamatoa history on Maori TV - definitely the most interesting part of the day.
