    By the way, Friday was massive for us. I don't have the official numbers, but at one stage we were doing 1 order per minute online!

    Thought you might also like to know what was going on behind the scenes. There were about 8 of us in the office (the rest were out in stores/call centres). Every single marketer had on their desktop: Yammer (what a heaven sent tool that is), Twirl/Twitter, Outlook of course, plus they ALL had publicaddress on their screens, Facebook (watching unofficial and offical sites). It was a social media hotspot! Your comments and others came in, got solved on Yammer (or yelled around the office), and changes were made to websites within an hour. Admittedly we're all quite new to this - and it's a big learning curve - but it was a very different scene to that which might have been even 6 months ago. We're very thankful for all your comments, advice and your patience with us.

    Myself and others will answer any last questions you may have today and tomorrow - and then we'll probably wind down tomorrow night as all the information you need is now available.

    @ Alastair

    If you need a hand working out a comparison on your bill - just give the business team at 126 a call. Otherwise I can recommend you get in touch with an Orb Guy - one of our business dealers - they have been specialising in bill analysis and comparisons over the past 6 months. If you drop a couple of months worth of bills into them, they can do all the hard work for you :-)

    The automated confirmation emails should be fixed now - having a few challenges on the sites today due to massive loads. Thx for your patience.

  • Speaker: The Telecom XT Discussion,

    @Joseph @Alastair @Fletcher,

    Hey I'm checking up on your question about the competition - although as already mentioned in the discussion - it's pretty standard practice to have "conditions of entry" for a competition that include "we'll send you marketing stuff". Does seem abit odd to have it as though it's an "option" though rather than a stated term of entering - altho' abit like the "accept these terms" button when you're downloading software. I'll pick it up with the testdrive.co.nz team though and check it out.

    @Gareth

    Good point - I'll brief our teams to start highlighting this in our business communications going forward - thanks for the advice.

    @ Russell
    Below is an extract from Chris Kealls blog on the topic you mentioned:

    "Next, an XT SIM card was inserted, then one setting changed (by selecting Settings/General/Network - making sure the Enable 3G box is checked at that point - then Cellular Data/APN and changing the APN setting by typing internet.telecom.co.nz."

    Gareth,
    Agree. But rather than thinking "rubbish" can I encourage you to recycle your old phone when you upgrade to the XT Network. We have a deal with Starship - every recycled phone equals $15 for Starship. The store staff are apparently going to have envelopes in store and can recycle the phones for you. Some good has to come from them!

    Alastair,
    I asked about the shared data cap - and whether it might be on the horizon. Short answer is no. Longer answer is it'll likely come when penetration levels are much higher in NZ.

  • Speaker: The Telecom XT Discussion,

    Jack,
    Re your marketing question...
    XT isn't a reference to Xtra although interesting you took that out of it. I checked with the brand guys and they say that XT isn't really supposed to have an explicit meaning - it's called an "ingredient mark" alittle like Intel inside or GT on a car (altho GT does mean something!). When I pushed them though they said it means "Xtreme Technology". Essentially though it's a quick reference way to identify which phones are available on the XT network (as we're still running the CDMA network and devices on that).

    From my perspective, I'm just pleased we have something simple to call the new network other than "the new network", WCDMA or 850Mhz - which the average person doesn't really understand or care about.

    Hope that solves the mystery.

    Alastair,
    Yes there will be a couple of deals released on Friday. I'd recommend you take a look at the new plans first so you can do an apples for apples comparison to your current setup - and get the feel for how the new plans work. Then check out the special deals - and get the guys instore to work out if the deal is going to work for you.

  • Speaker: The Telecom XT Discussion,

    Hi Rebecca here.
    Yes apologies for not putting my name on the posts - bit of a newbie I'm afraid. In the process of getting that changed right now. Didn't mean to mislead.

    So for the record - I'm Rebecca Smith - and I'm part of the Telecom Business Marketing team.

  • Speaker: The Telecom XT Discussion,

    Julian,
    Sorry you got the "standard answer" about roaming charges.

    We're actually going to continue offering all our roaming Telecom customers "zone based pricing".

    How it works: we've divided the globe up into 5 zones, each zone has a simple pricing structure. That means you can travel anywhere within that zone, and just pay the one price (it doesn't vary from country to country or network to network). Because you know the price upfront, you can roughly figure out what you're paying for a call (mins x price). There are no hidden costs with zone based pricing.

    The advantage with Telecom is that you don't have to "opt in" to this pricing plan - you get it automatically when you roam.

    The XT Network also means that all our phones will roam - finally!

    There will no doubt be alot of talk over the coming weeks about who roams to the most number of countries - but what I'm looking forward to is that my voicemail will work on the XT Network when I roam. You may have found when you were travelling that your voicemail with the other guys only worked when you turned your phone off (handy feature eh!). XT means it'll work the same as it does here - when you're on the phone, no answer etc. Just remember to get a PIN number sorted for it. The Telecom roaming helpdesk will be available 24/7 .

    If you've got any other questions about roaming - let me know.
    Rebecca
