Thanks for responding Bob, Heather, and Robyn.

What is said to have happened, happened in music's own spaces – starting with the much-loved bulletin board NZMusic.com. A shared passion for music became a pretext for predation.
Is that why the site closed down? I always wondered why it disappeared all of a sudden.

I have a question: What do they do with the busloads of tourists these days, now that you can't drive to the summit? Do they make them walk the last 200m, or is Mt. Eden no longer on the itinerary?
I ask because I was a guide for overseas tour groups a few decades ago, and Mt. Eden was often the first stop straight from the airport. Some of those tourists (only a small fraction, thankfully) grumbled at the slightest inconvenience, and I can just imagine... "No-one told me I'd have to scale a mountain. It's not on the itinerary! It says we'll be driven to Auckland's highest peak, but this isn't the peak, is it?"

One thing I've admired about David Bowie in recent years was that he sought new ideas in music after his commercial peak rather than rehashing his hits, and succeeded in making interesting albums. Hours..., Outside, Earthling, The Next Day, etc... they're all good and I listen to them regularly.

Leong Lau: Another reissue on Left Ear Records, Lau – from Malaysia – was active in Sydney during the 70’s and this has long been pretty obscure (his other album Dragon Man was reissued by Light in the Attic as well). The title track ‘That Rongeng Sound’ is the standout:

Sorry to derail the thread... can I ask about Take Back the News?
Will the New Scoop be just the current Scoop site with the content described at takebackthenews.nz ? Or will it be a new site? And when is it scheduled to be launched?
I understand (and like!) the concept, I just don't get the specific what and when.

Harking back to last week's Friday Music post:
I bought the audiobook of How Music Got Free. It's fascinating! Thanks for the great recommendation. -

I hope this isn't too much of a digression from the thread, but Robyn, what's up with 5000 Ways to Love You? On hiatus? I really like that site.

During the holiday period, I like to read old PAS posts from the years before I started lurking here.
