  • Hard News: What did you do yesterday?, in reply to Russell Brown,

Thanks Russell. The other one was following this para:
"In Auckland yesterday, there were three big outdoor celebrations – the long-running festival at Barry Curtis Park in Manukau, a new one at Henderson Park and a paid show at Bastion Point. Sale St pub touted a Waitangi Day beer festival where (for fuck’s sake) “grass skirts” were appropriate “even for the men”. Or there was this:"
Maybe it's because they were Tweets?

Just checked JKs speech and he was just being a knob as usual. Thought he might have said something interesting. It would be fascinating to see if there would have been any Waitangi Tribunal or grievance process if the "activists" had just shut up and gone away back in the 70s and 80s. So-called activists are vital in any battle, whether you agree with them or not, because it is those at the extreme who help shift where the centre ground is.

Damn! OK. I just get grey line under "I preferred Tame Iti’s take:" and in one other spot.

Is it just me or are a couple of your links broken Russell?
I love that Waitangi day is fraught. It shows why NZ is different from Australia and USA etc. etc. We have our own, unique race issue that is still being played out 170+ years on from the signing. It has ebbed and flowed but has never gone away, and it’s good for us as a nation to keep revisiting it because it makes up who we are – just as Christianity, rugby and Anzac Day do. Bring it all on, mix it up in the bowl and let’s make NZ soup.
This is why we end up with fascinating musicians like @Peace – bit of reggae, bit of jazz, bit of soul, bit of rock, bit of hip hop but somehow beautiful Koiwoi in its totality.

  • Hard News: Friday Music: Laneway 2013,…,

Can I start a movement that says it is OK to grab the smart phone of anyone who holds it up at a concert and throw it as far as you can across the room. Just pay attention to the music and appreciate it instead of trying to get a bad recording of it on your stupid genital extension. Thank you . . . and sorry . . . just need to breathe . . .

  • Hard News: Music: Summer Season,

Have been getting my big summer groove out of The Hotels. My family are sick of hearing it but I can’t resist.

Atlanta Rythm Section version of “Spooky” is best – guitar solos are great. In the best tradition of Jeff Skunk-Baxter, Larry Carlton, etc. Yacht rock!

  • Hard News: You down with TPP?,

This is one of those issue where no matter how much I read about it (and I know I should cos it sounds bloody dangerous – or not), I can’t seem to get any sensible grasp on what is really involved . Every aspect being discussed seems to be ‘open to interpretation’ and will only work well if everyone plays nice. If the parties involved decide to be naughty, then it appears that the ‘worst case scenario’ is pretty ugly. I believe wholeheartedly that National would sell the country down the toilet for any short-term gain they could manage but what are they chances that they can commit us to something binding before the next election? And where do Labour (or National-lite as I now like to think of them) stand on it?

  • Hard News: Switched on Gardener: to what…,

The real problem with treating marijuana use as a health issue, rather than a legal issue, is that they then have to deal with alcohol as a health issue and, as we saw with the latest round of suggested reforms on alcohol use and sales, this government has no interest in going there.

They were always going to get convicted for something because they were so overt about what they were doing – and they were breaking the law. Without wanting to go into the comparative harm arguments, one can't help but do a comparison again, e.g. police raid chain of shops selling home brew kits and charge owners with running criminal gang. Some shops were selling home-made beer at the counter and staff were known to drink some at lunchtime in canteens in which fridges had been installed, specifically for storing home brew below room temperature.

SJD is Noo Zillund's Thomas Dolby by the sound of this latest effort - I mean that in a nice way.
All the remixes just make me think that you can't beat the originals.
    I love this track.
