  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

James George, you know what's going on from the inside? Or just guessing like everyone else?

Sam F, the army will take over in that situation, not gangs. But dude, if it pans out the way you say, it's a world of shit anyway. You'll want a shooter, sure, but you won't last long either way.

  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

Constitutions mean little in the face of a compliant judiciary. What's important is an active citizenry.

So if, as in NZ, the citizenry couldn't give a toss, then a constitution's not going to help? I agree.

I think what keeps the NZ system honest is that it's small-time and mean. There's just not enough payback for corrupting officials, and no-one would consider blowing cash on that anyway.

Don't knock it, it works. You can have a constitution cakewalk right through Tienanmen Square for all I care, and it won't make a lick of difference. Kiwis won't vote because there isn't an "Anyone but Banks" option.

I suspect this is, in fact, the hidden agenda.

And we're all buying into it wholesale. Maori Nationalists and Hippies blew the World Cup for us. Burn them!

  • Hard News: Te Qaeda and the God Squad,

    But what's your benchmark for a fizz-out?

It'll turn out he knows some people who know some people who said some stuff. The whole case will fizzle around dangling the media tidbit of terrorism charges, and then wither away to a few misdemeanor charges, and maybe some drug supply. I'd be very surprised if charges of a political nature are laid, since I'd wager any plots whose bad side are hard time and whose good side is ... nothing ... will attract very, very few people, and none at all who could organize their way out of a paper bag. Such people are either already hardened criminals who would rather have an income, or already politicians cashing in. A few nutty dicks talking tough and playing wargames doesn't amount to a terror cell.

The police will have achieved what they wanted, to lay bare (and thus bust up) the structure of the organization, such as it is. Some showboats will have achieved their goal of increasing notoriety and coverage. The media will sell copy.

I think it's good to bust up people playing at having their own army. I don't think much needs to come of it, though, other than quite a few people will realize the cops have got their eyes on them. Any of them who have genuine brains and talent will probably choose another career.

And we will have forgotten about the ABs. Hooray!

I'm willing to bet real $ that Bomber's amazing revelations will be a complete fizz-out, much like the whole story is destined to be.

As someone quite rightly put it last night....'if not one talks, everyone walks'.

Yep, I find that pretty creepy ...

Don't worry man, someone always talks. That's even more creepy.

Duck tastes like lizard .. yuck.

Yup, not my bag. Especially gamey duck peppered with buckshot.

I wasn't very impressed with Iti's recent trip to Fiji to offer support to Bainimarama.

I doubt Bainimarama will ever be that desperate.

isnt someone a terrorist only after they create terror?

The French Rugby Team are not terrorists, man

  • Hard News: The standing-still sweep,

That is every duck hunter I've ever seen.

Are they worried the ducks might be able to pick them out of a lineup?

Sounds like an argument against duck hunting. At least with assault rifles. Hardly sounds 'sporting' to me, a lot more like fishing with grenades.

  • Hard News: The standing-still sweep,

I think just seeing a guy wearing a balaclava and carrying an assault rifle warrants a call to the cops, and justifies them checking it out. Let alone if they actually threatened anyone.

The most likely mischief for such a totally unaccountable group armed up and training like this is for some serious gangster in their midst to decide that organized crime really is more profitable than revolution. If they can convince even a few of their already pretty whacky buddies that they need more funds for their revolution then you're looking at bank robberies, kidnappings, and standover extortions at the very least.
