  • Cracker: In Which DC Becomes a Twat,

Dive on in Damien... it's the only way. Twitter is 99% rubbish but the last 1% more than makes up for it. Real time news dissemination at its finest. You'll find out about big events sooner on Twitter than on traditional news sites...

I watched the US election results come in on my PC (work time, y'know). Three tabs open - BBC, CNN and Twitter. I would see a result posted on Twitter (a re-tweet of a re-tweet from someone close to the action) and would wait to confirm it (and it always was confirmed) some time later on CNN (BBC was for the international flavour and the historical stuff which it did exceptionally well).

These days I find out about stuff first on Twitter by a long chalk. Even obvious stuff like the Reserve Bank dropping interest rates - it's a good 15 minutes ahead of the news sites.

Plus you meet a nicer class of people.

  • Cracker: Post St Patrick's Day Blues,

Glad to see it's not just me who was appalled by that astonishing press conference. I thought journalists were in attendance, not just groupies. Apparently not. John Campbell, your stock fell sharply on that one. How do you feel, indeed.

So what shares did you buy? Do you know your PE ratio from your elbow (I certainly don't) and I thought you'd given up the stinky pig!

  • Speaker: Surviving Small,

I worked from home for three years and it was bliss. I got to see my eldest daughter every day and join in with the foolish fun of growing up. And (double plus good) I would log on in the morning, send a few IMs and emails to prove I was working and then have a shower/wake up. She didn't sleep too well and neither did I for the first two years. A desk job would have killed me.

Favourite memory - being chewed out by a minister over a story I'd written and having my too-tired brain refuse to process anything other than "I'm getting a dressing down in my dressing gown".

But it's not for everyone and in the end it was too hard to work and cope with a toddler. What's the point in being at home if you have to keep the door shut? I'll give it another go when the youngest is at school... maybe.

    Rupert Brown...

For some reason I'm picturing Russell wearing checked trousers and a red shirt surrounded by friends called Bill the Badger and the like.

And I can't make it stop!

It's better to get to 40 than not, but I'm with you on this one... I enjoyed turning 30 but 40?

  • Hard News: Have you met thingy?,

I get accused of not introducing my wife deliberately all the time. It's not true - I forget everyone's names on the spot including Wossname's.

    Do what I do, Russell...

"You introduce yourselves while I get the drinks" and then listen in.

Fortunately as a former waiter I don't tend to forget who's ordered what ;-)

My own mother still despairs at discovering I couldn't see the blackboard at age 13... Years of guilt have followed, not all of it my fault.

Must get the girls' eyes tested regularly.
