  • Hard News: Safer Communities Together,

Rod Oram's discussion of NZ's portrayal on the world stage mentions the main promo video in the top banner of the newzealand.com tourism site (click the overlaid "play" button).

Good angle, beautifully executed. Mainly the great outdoors but integrates the nightlife smoothly if briefly - and fitting use of music by those Fielding boys.

I like 50 posts too. Less trouble scrolling up a page than trying to remember which one to click on a few pages earlier.

Wasn't it more that the particular vision presented might as well have been from Europe rather than the biggest polynesian city in the world, and missing a fair few Asian faces too?

It's impressive. Not sure how we differently go from there to sexy, but I'm sure there are many, many ways.

It might be just like being attracted to a good singing voice.

Agreed. And then we make things difficult by trying to impose categories about who sings.

For instance, stereotyping all things emotional as "feminine" is not helpful for any of us. Robert Bly wrote of "a tremendous depth of feeling in the masculine". It's part of being human, like singing is.

Physical differences undoubtedly influence attraction for most of us, but there's tremendous variation within genders even in that dimension.

It was a biased tv3 story, but pretty clear:

And Key admits introducing competition to some ACC accounts is fast becoming a reality.

“We are quite comfortable moving in that direction and looking at that competition, how that might be introduced, we don't have a solution at this time. That’s certainly an area the ACT party is interested in having some discussion about,” says Key.

Labour says talk of competition is a step towards privatisation.

“I think it's National's long term ambition to privatise this, as it is to privatise other things,” says Labour Leader Phil Goff.

when I see his evil eyes

I see pompously rheumy. The smell of camphored cardies and certainty untroubled by an open mind.

nobody carried out due diligence on their ability to deliver

Pretty sure they did. Audit Office rep involved throughout the process. Someone obviously spun a jolly good line over-estimating their competence.

At least it seems the agreement must have had the right clauses to let the combined DHBs put their own quality team in and even to claw back the contract scope for non-performance.

However, like others I don't understand how it can possibly cost $4m more to substitute an established provider for a relinquished part of the contract. Aussies benefit either way, and less money to spend on other DHB services in the Auckland region. Grrrr.
