  • Hard News: From soundbite to policy,

On top of all that, Mr. Bill "No one will be worse off" English is now admitting that National's tax cuts will actually make some poor New Zealanders worse off than they would have been under Labour.

Bill English - "No one will be worse off": Liar.

Anne Tolley - caught on video telling teachers the 90 day fire at will bill won't afffect them: Liar.

John Key - No mention of the ramming through the fire at will legislation - I suppose his flexible corporate morality means he thinks being economical with the truth merely makes you oh so smart, funny and clever, but I'm calling him a liar as well.

National appear to be trying to set some sort of dubious record for being the biggest liars in the shortest possible time.

  • Hard News: A news site where you can…,

Look on the bright side of the fire-at-will legislation:

It has irrevocably branded National as a bunch of worker hating, arrogant forget nothing learn nothing charlatans, and it has gifted Labour three years of media friendly fodder of tales of outrageously unfair dismissals, forced sexual relationships and the whole range of human interest stories so beloved by Close-Up, Campbell Live, etc etc.

    Drip-Drip-Drip...

  • Random Play: Following The Songlines,

Vector is a venue that is long overdue, but in fine Auckland fashion almost everything that can be done to wreck your experience has been done. The sound varies, but generally it isn't that good - purely as a result of a rushed finishing of the building and a penny wise and pound foolish approach. The pricing is over-inflated, the venue costs a fortune to hire on a turnkey only basis, there are no corporate facilities (i.e. corporate boxes) and last but by no means least the catering is so abysmal as to be beyond the ordinary compass of consumer experience. Maybe the limit of two drinks per person could possibly be justified. Maybe the outrageous prices in return for piss-poor choice and shocking service can be justified. Maybe the ridiculous rules around taking the top off every drink has a rationale. But why, oh why, does the person who takes your order & money have to be the same person who then proceeds to get your order, open each and every bottle, decant it, and give it to you? Have the idiots who run the catering at vector never heard of the revolutionary principle of division of labour? Or is it hat the caterers, in the finest traditions of New Zealand capitalism (Faye Richwhite et. al.), simply see the punters as a captive audience to be as thoroughly rorted and exploited as the available time will allow???

  • Hard News: Debacles and Disgraces,

Listening to Morning Report this morning I hear Paula Bennett is already using mealy mouthed corporate gobbledegook (a sure sign someone is out of their depth) and Kate Wilkinson is clearly one marked for a minsterial career of spectacular incompetency. Now National are ramming through under urgency legislation they haven't even drafted yet. Clearly, National are a party that has learnt nothing and forgotten nothing in nine years of opposition.

    One term wonders, this lot.

"...But I have been struck by the persistent anger of the winning side's supporters since the election...."

The online crazies from the right have had nine years to convince themselves New Zealand is a corrupt cesspit in dire need of their version of de-Nazification. Anything less is proof that the canker of socialist corruption is running even deeper than their considerable imaginations feared... Actually, they are a lot like the Obama conspiracy theorists really.

  • Hard News: Birth of the Nasty,

Actually, The Herald isn't really a TORY paper. it is the mouthpiece of the Auckland business elite. They tend to range from tribal National to monster raving looney ACT in their views. As a group they seem to be largely made up of shiney pants shysters with a sense of entitlement that would make the Thai PAD proud.

The idea of a straw man golden past seems to be part of part of the regular diet in the media in these days of cheap op-ed.

I get the feeling the one free pass the public are going to give National is this pre-christmas sitting of parliament. From January on, anymore displays of seat warming rather than doing the job will be punished in the polls.

  • Field Theory: Intense Uniformity,

Speaking of retro, I've always thought Ranfurly Shield games should be played in "retro" (i.e. pre-professional era) strips. You know, unadorned blue and white hoops for Auckland, Black and White for Hawkes Bay, dark navy blue with a big gold "O" for Otago, that sort of thing. Just to reinforce theheritage of the log 'o' wood...

You know this blatant ripping off of fans by changing the sdtrip - and thus trying to force fans to spend big bucks "updating" their overpriced "replica" shirts just so pisses me off. Maybe it is because I know of several families who only ever watch rugby on Sky because they can't afford the ticket prices but who have kids who adore the game. Kids whose parents won't be able afford the jerseys, so the kids will just have to sit there wishing they had the latest jerseys, whilst over weight middle class men with a flash new jersey straining to contain a gutload of beer waddle to their overpriced seats to enjoy the match.

    People's game my ass.

  • Field Theory: Intense Uniformity,

Why do they need new strips every year again? What was wrong with the one they wore last season?

Oh thats right - professional rugby is a branch of the entertainment industry.
