  • Island Life: We are all Chinese now,

It seems common knowledge amongst the politerati that Bill English can't stand Kiwisaver. When it was introduced he told us no one would sign up. When people signed up he told us it was a lemon. When people ignored him and went ahead anyway, he lapsed into a sullen silence. I wonder if this attack on kiwisaver to fund the tax cuts isn't a huge miscalculation on the part of a National party that has consistently underestimated the public appeal of kiwisaver.

  • Hard News: Dial O for Obama,

Angus, if that is all McCain then the GOP is finished this time round.

His VP running mate attempts at a swift boating has sunk. Hell, his VP choice has sunk as even his own side has realised they don't want her a 72 year old's heartbeat away from the big red button.

Any attempt to character assassinate Obama has re-bounded on McCain - he has just got to much form, and ditto for any attempt to balme the Democrats for the financial crisis.

The Republicans may have sown up the "Joe six pack" (can anyone imagine a more insulting and detestable moniker for the working class?) vote when their miserable culture war was allowing them to busily divide and rule America, but when you are about to lose your house it suddenly doesn't matter as much if the other guy is black.

  • Hard News: Have you met thingy?,

I am hopeless with faces, anmes etc - but that is because I meet so many new people that it is hard to keep up. I

just tell people when I don't recognise them for the third or fourth time to get an angle, you know, a hat or a lisp or something.

  • Field Theory: I suppose you could call…,

I would have thought that this year's Hawke's Bay team would have beaten the current rabble of schoolboy rugby league players that masquerade as the Auckland team.

Having said that, with their All Blacks present and a whole season of humiliation that could be partially put right in one win I wonder if Waikato are not the favourites for this Sunday's game with Hawke's Bay. For all their good style, the Magpies don't have the big game breakers.

Get rid of the bonus points system because it didn't work for Auckland? Way to go on a rugby version of Bushite hubris... "The reality doesn't work for us, therefore we must change the reality."

Perhaps Auckland ought to learn from the mighty Magpies, with their thriving academy, overflowing stadia and a team with a fan base that is grateful for every victory and accepting of every reverse.

I don't know, to often watching professional sports teams like Auckland is like watching pornography - a physically perfect bunch engaging in an exercise that resembles what the part-timers in Hawkes Bay are doing, but with none of the joie de vivre of the amateurs.

So whilst Auckland contemplate the need to take a big long suck on the teet of the shut the fuck up sow, I am heading down to Napier to enjoy Hawkes Bay playing for a semi--final spot. If they win joy oh joyeux! If they lose, oh well, we can look forward to next year, toast what has been and drink to next season!!!

  • Hard News: Citizens,

Just listening to news now and golly, when Ron Mark takes his angry pills and starts foaming you don't need your dose of the Daily Show to get parody at its finest.

And I see Mr. Slater is now trying to bully poneke, the hubris of him and his offsiders is truly astonishing to behold.

I think all this crime can be squarely laid at the door of crims shaking people down so they can get the cash needed for the sort modern coffee grinder you need to grind up that crystal meth.

A second hand Mazzer? That sounds quite vulgar. I wonder if should email Wahaleoil about it.

FIVE HUNDRED NOTES????? Can't I just, you know, sidle up to the cheap Breville one at Briscoes and get them to put it in a brown paper bag?

Otherwise I'm going to have to buy myself a nice ceramic tea pot instead; I can't afford this high falutin' coffee game.
