Rich, if you are relying on what you saw in the media then I understand your attitude. However, even a decade ago computers were far more essential and interwoven than you suggest.
The factory example I mentioned is real - do you seriously think they would have done the remedial work for fun? Flight navigation and other systems with critical impacts also failed under test. That no planes subsequently fell from the skies or nuclear plants melted down reflects considerable success.
Far from being arrogant, most geeks I've ever known would be the last to blow trumpets. And they get the difference in implications and scale between Y2K and daylight saving changes. Can't necessarily say the same for all journos.

Simon, that sounds reasonable from here. Any idea why the three panellists disagreed so vehemently? Did it not work last time it was tried, or overseas?

I got the impression the Minister thinks he has some mechanism to tell TVNZ what time to screen things. Like some sort of, well, Charter perhaps.

Its the unfailing self belief in the face of intelligent and knowledgeable comments from others that impresses the most.
Russell really was right in diagnosing the most incredible lack of self-awareness. Pride in ignorance is not a characteristic I find admirable in anyone.

Or what about a game for turntable artists? Labels could provide the stem tracks for songs (in which each instrument's recording is isolated) and let players mix their own versions. Users could vote for their favorites through online services like Xbox Live, and Warner could sell the winning mixes back to customers using the very platform on which they were created. Call it Wii-Mix.
