  • Hard News: Awful in more than one way,

they can't undo the firearms proliferation they have now. There are just too many guns already

That's it right there. The Glock is out of the holster so to speak. On another largely American forum I put forward the idea of a Gun Death Toll, like the road toll.

The U.S. can't seem to get a national strategy on gun use and they can't get states to cordinate so it will always be easy to go to the next door state to get a gun there.

There should be a level of gun fatalities that is deemed acceptable to the general public. Individual states and the federal government should work to limit the levels of fatalities to that level.

When this is achieved they could start to work on the illegal weapons.

Strangely this eminently sensible proposal was met with silence from the American posters.

Golly jingoes, merc. That is interesting. I read some more about at wiki here. Boy if we'd had this in Religious Education at primary school instead of all that being nice to people stuff...

  • Hard News: Biting back at Bill,

    Is the book Fiscadoro?

No, it is called Riddley Walker and may have inspired another poster from here abouts.

Boston Legal does have some good moments, I admit. Last nights was the first I had watched since ages ago and I did like it.
I also usually watch Top Gear and, of course, try to stay down wiv the kids by watching C4 off and on.

he found that actual content had decreased, but chat (the fronts talking shit to one another) had increased, as had ads

Faux News is the best at this stuff, where the banter has taken over.

  • Hard News: A depressing day in court,

The force flows strongly in this thread. We sense that the secrets of Swedish meatballs may soon be loose.
Can you handle that? When the cheese is on, who then will say "Eek a mouse"?
Can you handle the answer to "Do androids dream of electronic sheep?

  • Hard News: Biting back at Bill,

Last month, I said to myself "You are being too harsh, even elitist, there must be something to watch and it would stop you obsessing on that book about the post apocalyptic boy" So I went through the programme listings trying to find something to watch. there was nada, zip, zilch. Even if we had rich peoples TV there would have been bugger all to tempt me. We keep watching the news because it's a habit, I suppose.
Ooh ooh another peeve: The items that show you some person with some terrible thing happening to them and then "You can see more of this on "35 Minutes" tonight ie. "This was a spruik"

  • Hard News: Biting back at Bill,

I thought Garth George was trying the luvverble old curmudgeon bit. Failed of course with railing against the people who dared to write to him disagreeing with his anti GW hogwash.
The TV news thing that grates with me is the interminable live crosses to things that are not really worth it eg. Cops standing on overpasses with traffic in the background saying "Traffic is heavy tonight as people are going on holiday".
Or the live reporting we had to have from outside the hotel where Anna Nicole Smith died "Well it's 2am here, Mike, so not alot is happening".
Or the political reportor reporting from the steps of paliament about something that might happen next week.
Then we have the film of traffic accidents that are on the news because we have footage eg. the crazed truck driver from Israel last week, a story so unimportant that the news readers could barely stay awake yet it got two showings.
And the man from Channel 9 Australia who is going to take over at TV One wants to see it more competitive...
Lordy, lordy thank heaven for the interweb.
Merc it is indeed time for the shining sword of truth or maybe the glowing wand of relevance or even the bleached toothpick of pretty interesting.

If Brains was the father why was Gordon so...less than brilliant? Mind you I think Virgil could have been lying, he's about hit bottom, in pron movies.

Sort of a shack shaped thing. It was piloted by Gordon Tracy, love child of Lady Penelope and Poppa Tracy according to Virgils tell-all autobiography "No Strings Attached". He was on Newstalk ZB overnight.
