did Kora do that mid-song freeze thing? a bit gimmicky, but bloody effective. they rocked the house at last years Womad. I reckon they could just about take Shihad in a scrap.

with you on the aussies - aside from Tism, they can come back if they like.

and cheers Graeme, I felt distinct pangs of missing the party when the fullas here were gearing up for the day. now, not so much.

so yeah, bring on Al Green. not to built any unfulfillable expectations mind. then Florence...then the Pixies.

    Lordy.

  • Hard News: You've got to listen to the music,

went to groove armada at the power station last night - kinda dragged along by the missus really, but man, have they changed tack, and in a good way. they've turned themselves into an electroclash group, mostly played live, with bass, geetar, keys and a really solid drummer. they've got a cool woman out front as well, kinda channeling Toyah Wilcox with a nice line in Kate Bush dance moves. tell you what, if I'd walked in without knowing who was playing I'd never have guessed right.

just felt the need to share.

oh, and total bummer about Teddy P.

  • Hard News: You've got to listen to the music,

did you sing the chorus with bee-ewwww bit to them?

might have gone down a bit like when Neil Finn responded to Sting singing one of his songs to him back stage with a rendition of de do do do de dah dah dah.

re Freur, I remember Karen Hay pimping them on RWP. I grabbed the album and 12'' from a cheapie bin a few years back for a bit of a laugh - no-worr-eye-mean?

wasn't quite so funny when I sat down for a listen. still, interesting musical footnote given where they ended up.

    now filed under ironic nostalgia.

  • Hard News: You've got to listen to the music,

just to hark back to the Blue Monday discussion for a wee minute...there's also this to consider...

now, not claiming that because this bunch are from Manchester as well and pre-date BM's release that the progression must have been, ummm, borrowed, but it's interesting none the less. Of course, there probably isn't an apparently unique chord progression anywhere that's never been heard before.

howdy Rich, I'll be back at kiwiburn this year.

I had a blast last year but I'm afraid the bush doof culture rather does my head in, so I've scored myself a generator, trawled through my rekid collection, and will be doing my own thing under my 'house of bamboo' banner; perhaps best described as ironic easy listening.

should be a hoot, as long as no-one throws rocks when the moog hits me.

    which group are you with?

what the bloody blues blazes? you look the other way for a few days and some geezer from Glen Eden or wherever tries to steal your name...

look matey, there's only room in this 'burb for one whirled famous AlanP, and I've already had the cards made - for reel and everything.

    oh, and merry christmas.
