  • Stories: Hotels,

The Quadrant in Auckland is ok.

And the LivingSpace in Christchurch, which tolerated us having heaps of oddly dressed people for a pre-fetish-ball party.

  • Cracker: Post St Patrick's Day Blues,

I had advice from a professional fund manager on how to do the job:
    1. Buy shares
    2. If they go up, sell them
    3. If they go down, classify them as a long term investment and hand to a junior to manage

also, I can recommend BAE Systems as a good investment. Because Pol Pot's dead, and the Medellin Cartel isn't publically quoted.

  • Field Theory: Mother Dog!,

illegally exporting butchered puppy meat and guns to Sudanese militia

I've been trying to do that for years, but I can't source guns in NZ at the right price point. Also, halal puppy meat is a bastard to get hold of.

  • OnPoint: Wrong. Wronger. Wrongerest.,

I don't believe this was accidental.

The paper wanted to run a story on how our schools are hotbeds of crime, part of their general agenda of how NZ is going to hell in a handbasket.

I think it would be obvious to anybody that "recorded offences in schools and universities" would include cars broken into in uni car parks, laptops pinched from offices, breakins, etc. The reporter wasn't on that track and conflated it into imaginary violent crime against schoolteachers.

Just don't assume anything you read in the paper is true unless you have other evidence.

  • Cracker: Titular Titilation,

This reminds me of the bit in Toby Young's book "How to lose friends and influence people" where he discovers that his father's life peerage allows him the courtesy title "Honourable". He then tries to get his Amex card amended to read "The Honourable Toby Young" in an attempt to pick up girls.

  • Island Life: The Prime Minister will see…,

A failure to cut emissions could render half of the world uninhabitable.

I find that hard to believe. People inhabit Spitzbergen, Darwin, Nevada and Invercargill, to name a few places with spectacularly unpleasant climates.

I think humans can live anywhere there's an adequate amount of oxygen - maybe not in today's numbers, but still exist.

  • Field Theory: So what are you doing in 2011?,

France will field a B team for the pool game, right? No real reason to do anything else.

  • Cracker: Titular Titilation,

Who is New Zealand's head of state?

De jure, Elisabeth Windsor, and whoever should follow her under mile primogeniture, or any other succession system the British choose.

De facto, about 80% the PM and 20% the Governor General.
