  • Hard News: Gushing for Auckland,

Money doesn't just talk, it shouts, it harangues, it's used to having its way.

What's mentioned in the article comes across as Pinochetism minus the guns and death squads.

  • Hard News: Gushing for Auckland,

Actually, no, I insist: Auckland local government is traditionally more dysfunctional than anyone else's.

Sadly true. Even when Wellington City is run by dickheads, they have nothing on dickheads running Auckland City.

    And this pearler from UrbanArchipelago.com:

The lesson is simple for urban residents: Seattle shouldn't cast its lot with the rest of the state. Rural and suburban voters have shown again and again that they aren't willing to fund urban infrastructure. Throughout Washington State, transportation taxes like 2002's Referendum 51 have tanked, while anti-transit measures like Tim Eyman's I-776 have passed overwhelmingly. While that might seem like grim news for cities like Seattle, there's a silver lining: When cities set their own transportation priorities, truly urban systems (like the monorail) get funded and built, while the suburban mega-highways that lard initiatives like R-51 go unfunded. We don't use suburban roads. We can let the suburbs figure out a way to pay for them.

  • Hard News: PEDA: Who, what, where, why,

Pardon diversion but this is quite amusing and mentions our good friend Russell Brown.

And to muddy the waters further, on Brian Edwards' blog, someone out there apparently pretended to be Duncan Garner and posted something more snarky than snarky. The real Garner eventually pointed out the discrepancies between the e-mail addresses involved. On top of that, there was a post under the name of a certain Dave Fane.

"I completely forgot about any of that"

"So don't you worry about that!"

And his general views on LGBT rights should Garner him plenty of MSM support.

Make that Blatantly Deviant Sensationalist Media. ;)

  • Hard News: Gushing for Auckland,

John Key approved the release of the Credit cards. He said little but as expected the MSM really did the work for him.

For lack of a better analogy, the 'fourth estate' has devolved into a law firm with a printing press.

One big problem with democracy at present (and it's not just with the leaders). There's a lot of people who vote in an uninformed way, and sometimes people will - to use a euphemism - cut off their nose to spite their face.

The air traffic controllers' union in the States openly endorsed Reagan - only for the turkeys to vote for their own Thanksgiving when they went on strike and Reagan sacked the lot.

I think what Andin refers to as 'democracy' is really a Kiwi version of States' Rights.

Can I suggest that that seems to be one of the defining feature of Act people; they get apoplectic about the perceived moral failings of others, but when it comes to themselves there's always some reason why it doesn't apply.

The plagiarism of the Greens' 2008 billboards, anybody? And to rebut such mis-info costs big legal bucks, which they seem to exploit. Do as they say, not as they do.

  • Hard News: The Disingenuous Press,

After reading that J Rough man yesterday, I moved on to better things that did not make me angry, but now it's been mentioned, would like to say. What a jerk.

Where's Jay Pryor when you need him?

I think you'll find the Herald will rediscover it's enthusiasm for defending democracy from attack when Labour is next returned to power, and will do its best to highlight abuses of urgency by the filthy socialists.

By 'democracy' you probably mean ad revenue.

Unit Type 883 - Security droid.
This droid was designed from archive data. For some unknown reason it instils great fear in human adversaries.

  • Speaker: Knuckleball,

How many teams can say they left the World Cup undefeated? I am very pleased with this side.

Surprising how many of the A-grade teams underperformed this year.

Can you suggest something "complex" a protestor with individual access to that area could do, that would also attract TV and other media attention during the 60 seconds of the visitor's entrance?

Culture-jamming in some form or another.
