What if the higher-ranked school has an endemic bullying problem?

Like the one I went to in the mid-1990s. From my experience high-decile schools aren't always what they're cracked up to be.

  • Hard News: Standards Matter,

There's a very succinct solution to league tables. Require all schools, public and private, to reflect the demographic makeup of the nation.

Small problem - I can easily visualise the headmasters of Grammar or Kings obstructing the entrance to kids of Mangere & Otara who they haven't cherry-picked.

  • Cracker: Go Figure,

When Paul Hopkinson torched the NZ flag, he was known to be a member of the Worker's Party. Tame Iti, who reputedly shotgunned a NZ flag in protest, is apparently a card-carrying Leninist.

If someone torched the Tino Rangatiratanga flag, they'd probably be slapped with the Klan/NF/BNP/NSDAP label.

If someone torched both flags at once, what would that make them? Anarchist? Terrorist? Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere? Otherwise?

  • Hard News: Start with your conclusion,

Several months ago there was mention of a group of influential business persons in Christchurch who wielded a lot of political power back in the 40's? 50's? 60's?. The group had a name and I'm wondering if someone here can remind me.

I was initially thinking the ZAP, but apparently that didn't come until the 1970s.

  • Cracker: Go Figure,

A very good reason to ditch the current flag, even if those fellas are clowns.

It's a diversionary tactic. National have dropped a few balls and the Herald have brought the flag out to divert attention.

And on the wider issue of whitebread and media circuses...

"Don't wanna be an Aotearoan idiot
Don't want a nation under the new media
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
    The subliminal mind fuck Aotearoa"
    ...

"Don't want to be an Aotearoan idiot
One nation controlled by the media
    Information age of hysteria
It's going out to idiot Aotearoa"

So for example, the open antisemitism of early Social Credit went underground as opposition to "international bankers" and became so coded that by now, many current followers of the movement are probably genuinely unaware of the original significance of those phrases.

Having said that, I do feel that Jew-hating adds such an air of distinction to a conspiracy theory, don't you? All the oldest and best ones have it.

And on the other end of the social scale, "tough-on-crime" measures seem to have a very strong air of crypto-Romaphobia.

  • Cracker: Go Figure,

I've happily made do without a TV since about 2004 - around the time my Internet hours surpassed my TV hours - and for good reasons countless to list here. I can safely say broadband & TV-on-demand are among the more major reasons.

With the exception of TVNZ6 & 7, is the rest of TVNZ - specifically TV1 & TV2 - fubar? These noble fellas rightly thought so. The single biggest problem counting against them was the fact that most of them were over 55.

I was more disappointed that he could still emerge and depict himself as the victim, even as he hurled around threats.

And worse still, a number of public figures were basically saying, "go easy on Tony, he's just a man being a man."
