Looking for lost photons...
(and braincells IIRC, which I don't...)
Has anyone out there got, or know of, a photo of The Hillsborough Tavern as it was in the '80s, maybe it's in the background of that shot your friend took outside, just before going in to see The Dance Exponents, Toy Love or John Cale?
An inside shot might be ok if no exteriors surface...
(Reason: I had a request from someone doing a movie about that time - don't know if I can say more yet) -
Numbers and numbness...
At a biological level, considering humans much the same as bacteria or viruses, and with a world population over 7 billion it doesn't surprise me that we get rogue cells, social cancers and collapsed colonies, at all levels...
On our road to post-humanity a large percentage of us appear to be eschewing cellular evolution in favour of mediating reality through devices, while operating in a seething tide of constant electromagnetic fields and ill-considered chemical combinations...
Most people thought Dr Strangelove* was a comedy, when it was a window on a world at a tipping point, reaping the sown seed of its own downfall, a path we have followed since the first hominids tasked sticks and rocks as tools , and then as weapons... ( 2001* )
It seems to me that no matter what we do, there will always be sports, mutations, and the odd bad apple or disconnected (for whatever reason) social unit - limiting the tools of mass death-dealing we have access to, and being a more open and inclusive society would go a long way towards keeping these incidents smaller, if not any less tolerable.*Hmmm, I think I'm going to watch all of Kubrick's movies again over this holiday season, I sense a visionary humanist thread running through them all...

Hard News: Friday Music: Hits and Shitters, in reply to
Yeah, me, I'm talking to you...
a whiff of publicity
I meant to say another whiff of publicity...
as Public Address, and Russell, have always been stalwart champions of the LEDs - and all things Parkesian.
But how to get the rest of the nation to notice?
Even though they've heard bits of tracks in the
Outrageous Fortune and Go Girls shows...
Next year maybe?
After the upcoming paradigm shift...

Christmas cards anyone,,,
Sadly all you Toy Love fans missed out getting the snazzy 24 poster postcard sets at the record launch in Auckland - they were there, just languishing elsewhere, apparently due to brainfade or perhaps under a quality control cloud - not enough pixels for some? - I thought they were close enough for rock n roll in the circumstances, - c'est la vie...
That was then, this is Now!
With access to better scans, and some misattributions fixed - (Sorry Terry, and does anyone know the whereabouts of the photographer David Burke?) Mk II sets are now available - thru Flying Nun (when they add them to their website - they have The Bats sets available, too) there's a few at Galaxy Records & Penny Lane & Smith's Bookshop in Chchch so far - or you can hit the email icon above and write to me...Here endeth yet another shameless self serving plug masquerading as a public service announcement...

Prizegiving...
I'm running out of year, but I'd just like to mention that...
....at last The L.E.D.s album Dunes got a whiff of publicity - #5 in The Press reviewer, Vicki Anderson's best 50 albums for 2012 - see the Go supplement last Friday, sadly not available on line (an area The Press could hopefully and usefully improve upon in the new year, even having a Music section online would be a start) -
Let them have and eat cake…
Meanwhile we will all be heartened to hear that all out wonderful long suffering politicians have been forced to take another pre-Christmas pay rise…Mr Key said the Remuneration Authority had recommended a “small increase’’.
“It seems to be in line with the national average, maybe slightly lower, so I’ve written back saying in principle we’re comfortable with that,’’ he told 3 News.
The pay rise, to be confirmed on Thursday, would be back-paid – giving politicians a Christmas lump sum.OK, there are a few who might actually deserve it, while others will just laugh all the way to the TAB, or Hawaii…

Capture: Two Tales of a City, in reply to
Love to have a couple of sets
I'm just the designer/printer for these ones, but I'll sort something out with Smith's for you, they should probably put them on the website...
I'll email you tomorrow. -
Lest we forget what the adults in control want their nation’s kids to grow up and do…
A soldier sets out to graduate at the top of his class. He succeeds, and he becomes a drone pilot working with a special unit of the United States Air Force in New Mexico. He kills dozens of people. But then, one day, he realizes that he can’t do it anymore.
and
The impact of America’s drone war in the likes of Pakistan and Yemen will linger on, especially for the loved ones of the 178 children killed in those countries by U.S. drone strikes.

Hard News: You down with TPP?, in reply to
I have yet to see any sort of clearly explained cost/benefits explanation from the government on the TPP.
...with that in mind I have a special christmas present for the National Government, especially Tim Groser and Bill English - more envelopes to work stuff out on the back of...
(recycled of course - h/t My Zero Waste website -
a moveable feast?
What a marathon interview that must have been, as Russell ingested lunch, dinner and breakfast over the (multiple) course of it...
...does this mean 2013 will at last see the table set for the Public Address Food Blog?
