  • Hard News: Of course it's about the book,

So, it's been a year with the two dominant political parties coming out smelling of poo. It's probably not the last of it either, although I expect the summer recess will dampen down the faeces flinging somewhat.

How would you vote? Weigh up the negatives, see which party has the fewest and look for some positives?

"They lied the least, therefore they'll get my vote."

I don't know that I could do it in that manner.

Since the issues came out, it's fair to say the democratic process is alive in NZ. The sheer volume of scandals in just one year really does point to some serious rot in the system however.

  • Island Life: Citizen Key,

Apropos the state house thing: are you saying that Key was never weaned off the Nanny State teat, but continues to both suck and bite it in his middle age (being taxpayer funded)?

Apart from me-tooing Russell in that the editor is the first point of contact - that's the person who decides what goes into a publication after all - I'd like to point out that Ken Steinke is no longer at APN.

  • Island Life: Publishers in crisis!,

Now I don't believe in hell in the after life, religious sense, but more as in here and now. It would seem Mr Slack has just bought an entry ticket to such a place with his blog posting, and no, I don't think his torment will take place in the Auckland Stadium with ginified Devonportonians weeping at the sight.

  • Island Life: All stadium, all the time,

Gin-sodden and lachrymose Devonportonians cry out: "won't someone think of the children?" and put an end to Auckland's rugga stadium plans.

Oddly enough, this dolorousness doesn't occur when it's time to make money out of sub-dividing sections that create infill ugliness right there in their own backyards. Instead of looking across the harbour from Mt Vic or North Head, maybe Duder and Co should fix their collective gaze a little closer to home and shed a few tears over what they see there.

Normally, I would argue that you shouldn't attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by near-terminal stupidity... but, in Coddington's case, they're the two crutches supporting her faulty arguments.

Take this Herald column on the upcoming Telco regulation of hers for example.

In it, she compares Telecom's monopoly to having a restaurant with a good location, accuses the government of National Socialist - yes, she Godwins herself - policy, and shows a total lack of understanding of the issue at hand.

If Steve Maharey is to be believed, getting facts right isn't Coddington's strong suit, whereas media attention certainly seems to be her forte.

And... that's her raison d'etre, unfortunately. Editors looking to fill the whitespace between the ads with sensationalist blather instead of good journalism will always have a place for the likes of Coddington.

It don't work eh? Russel's URL thingy didn't work either, but it seems if you post them as they are it's fine.

    OK, I'll try again:
