I like the New Zealand feel and formality of the peresent system
All my votes have been in small country schools (Poolburn, Waihaorunga and Waihao Downs) usually with not many others present
Check of name and behind the screen to do my civic duty
And always wondering if I did check the correct name or did it back to front (Ticks and crosses)
My wife has been the Official Returning Officer or something like that so i always went when their were no crowds so we could have a catch up as it can be a long day
If it works and can be seen to work and can be proved to work so why change it -

Both parties have plenty of that (Judith Tizard anyone) but when you have seen quite as many changes of government as i have you will find thata change of government is not quite as traumtic as you might imagine
The two parties have more in common that they have differences

In fact new Labour Governments are much more likely to introduce change than the so called right who mostly just like to have a go with the handles of power and hang on to those by doing as little as possible -
Yes, Helen Clark is good if not a great politician (only time will tell on that)
But I think we might find that come election day the electorate are over thatInstead of smart/sharp one answers we want someone who can guide the country through the tough times that are upon us
Not sure that Key is the man for that but someone who has lived in the real world (outside the beltway) is felt ot be more likely to do a better job that a bunch of academics etcPeople really do feel that Labour do not know what it is like to try and raise a family, drive a car and keep a their heads above water
I think this perception is the real problem for Labour
And trips to Queenstown and expertese on the snow are not likely to change their minds -

When I realised what the weather would be like when you were due to cross I rather hoped you might pospone

Great idea,how about some Labour M.Ps 'cause some of them are going to be looking for something to do if the polling is correct and they are great at sticking their noses into other peoples business
The only thing that stops this idea as a goer is "whipping them into shape"
Easy to be a tough man on the mean streets when no one else is armed, not so easy when the odds are more even -

While to me it has always seemed Bill Sutch was probably one of the good guys you do have to wonder just what he was doing meeting a Russion (KGB spy) in rather strange circumstances
I await the opening of the appropriate KGB file
He was a very clever man, who knew it and that can lead to strange outcomes but I have always thought of him as a NZ patriot so as I say I look forward to the Russian files being opened

If you get a chance to go to Stewart Isalnd just do it, really has fantastic bird life and a nice feel to the placeHigh light for me was the Pantomine with about 50 involved from a population of 400?, really great show with lots of local jokes.
Quizz night at the pub had to be cancelled, everybody was at the show

My point is, that to my eye the anger is not genuine but manufactured in response to a poll that suggest that ordinary NZers are angry
If Miss Clark genuinly thought there was a problem rather than tell the police how to do their job, she as PM should do something about the culture that allowed two little children to be killedYou can be angry when ever you like but in my experience it is not a helpful way to deal with problems
