I have nothing but respect fot Organic farmers, they are up against it with the big fertiliser companies. Did you hear about this?
The Probitas StoryBackground
Commission investigation. In 2003 Mr Campbell approached a dairy farmer, Andrew Sime, wanting to buy lime and papa rock clay from Mr Sime’s lime works to use for making Probitas. Mr Sime also worked as soil tester, and when he saw the Probitas brochure, he was suspicious of the claims made. He gave the brochure to his son Dr Richard Sime, who has a PhD in physical chemistry. Dr Sime thought the claims sounded bogus and contacted the Commission. The Commission opened an investigation in July 2003.
In August 2003 a Commission investigator posed as a kiwifruit orchardist interested in buying Probitas, obtaining a sample of the product which was independently tested. When Mr Campbell was then approached by the Commission in relation to its investigation, he refused to be interviewed. A search warrant later executed and documents seized. Mr Campbell and his company were ultimately charged over the claims made to the Commission’s investigator in person, and in a promotional CD and brochure.

Organic producers are typically inefficient, and let the margins make up for it. It's the poor quality that irks me, since this is in no way inevitable.

Although not nearly as abundant as carbon dioxide--CO2--methane remains the second most important greenhouse gas, both because each molecule of CH4 in the atmosphere traps 23 times as much heat as carbon dioxide and it helps create more ozone--yet another greenhouse gas--in the atmosphere. During the two decades of measurements, methane underwent double-digit growth as a constituent of our atmosphere, rising from 1,520 parts per billion by volume (ppbv) in 1978 to 1,767 ppbv in 1998. But the most recent measurements have revealed that methane levels are barely rising anymore--and it is unclear why.

The amount of carbon on the planet has remained exactly the same for millions of years. There is, in fact, a "carbon cycle" where the carbon becomes attached and detached from other elements ie. Hydrogen, in the form of Hydrocarbons and carbohydrates which can be oxidised by burning or eating and digesting. Some of the carbon is released as carbon dioxide and some breaks down to a lower form of hydrocarbon, methane CH4. The carbon dioxide is taken up by all plant life, from trees to algae and then is either eaten, again, or rots down, releasing more methane, eventually becoming hydrocarbon again, oil or coal (over millions of years) It is this millions of years that is the problem. In a mere hundred years or so we have burned millions of years worth of hydrocarbons, this is why some are concerned about human causes of global warming. However, if the next time you take a long trip in an aeroplane, have a look out of the window and see just how insignificant the human impact is on a global scale.
Sure, we could do better in terms of pollution and I think the panic about global warming is a wake up call in this respect and will lead to better outcomes in cleaning up the mess of the last few hundred years. We are on the road to a better understanding of our planet and the damage done but carbon credits and cow farts? Gimmee a break. -

Nice thought but the numbers just don't add up. With the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere being only about 2% the effects of any increase in this paltry amount are far out weighed by water vapour which increases and decreases by vast amounts daily. This whole carbon credit scam is just plain crazy.

Before getting too excited about these experiments, however, we need to consider this: the largest known rats weigh no more than an average of one pound. Forcing a one pound rat to smoke 8 cigarettes per day is the equivalent of forcing a 160 pound human to smoke 1280 cigarettes per day (64 packs). Such experiments are not realistic and in no way replicate exposure to ordinary tobacco smoke. Given the enormous concentrations of smoke used by the experimenters, it is wonder that any of the animals even survived the ordeal; yet, they did, and only a small percentage developed tumors.
And to make matters worse I think the relationship between CO2 and "Global Warming" is a load of tosh! We have all been conned by those with a vested interest.

Are you talking about the New Coke that tasted equally as bad as the Old Coke but different? Or Pepsi? How about the fact that burning fossil fuels causes Global warming, as do cigarettes and I would rather sit in a room full of naked Badgers than a non smoker with an annoying attitude. It's ALL wrong I tell you, ALL WRONG!!! -
