Well, the paranoid depression part might be good for the next RWC in 2011...

We don't really 'do' singing at sports events, do we? Bloody repressed overly-macho spectators. Quite apart from the fact that I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.

I don't suppose there's any way we could all learn to sing Paint It Black for sporting events...

(it was the only one featuring 'black' I could think of that people might have heard before. I know it's not a homegrown (aka 'homegrowen') number.)

It seems to me that the whole 'Region n' thing for DVDs is a crock. Why can't we all watch the same DVDs in a global village?

  • Hard News: Speaking Freely,

My sweetheart watches a fair bit of tv - me not so much - and we were discussing the possibility of upgrading from our current set-up by getting a big ol' 46" LCD screen with HD (not sure if they even make them without HD) and getting a MySky HDi subscription.
It is bound to be better than the cruddy UHF we get at the moment. The free-to-air stuff on 1, 2 & 3 gets reasonable reception but everything else is shonky. I suspect because we live behind a ridge in the Waitakeres with no direct line-of-sight to the main broadcast tower on the Wiataks or the SkyTower.

I have been led to believe that we might get a good price on a "big tv" (as above) but I am not sure about the quality of reception because of our location. Switching to digital and/or satellite should fix that, I guess.

Does anyone have any firm recommendations? Bearing in mind that we are non-techies (proto-Luddites, in truth) we need something that is easy to install & maintain and that will be minimal hassle with a reasonable future-proofing scenario.

A word in defence of the Master of Surreal Commentary - Mr Murray Mexted. Not sure why, but I really enjoy Murray's weird ramblings - he adds an element of surreality that cuts through the Cliche-thon that is any other commentary.

I understand that this is a minority opinion.

I'm with you, Richard on hating Arsenal - I lived near Highbury for a few months (including the end of their season) and their fans were by and large not very nice people. I felt seriously threatened just being in the same pub as them when ManU were winning a match and they were losing theirs - the sheer intensity of their hatred was a wonder to behold - and not in a good way.

Funnily, though, I did like Denis Bergkamp who, apart from being a bit of a dirty Dutchie (he used to stamp on opponents if they were in the ground), was a sublime footballer.

And when it comes to rugby, it has to be England who seem to have a preternatural attitude of superiority that allows them & their fans to believe that any time they have been beaten it has been by a team of cheats. Oh, the sheer bliss when they get beaten by a team of perennial losers like Scotland!

  • Island Life: The Art of the Deal,

I'm finding it difficult to reconcile Goff's obvious intelligence with his little outburst. Even if it doesn't ring any alarm bells in his own head, surely he should be getting advice that would temper such folly?

No, that's right...Labour leaders neither seek nor accept advice. 'snot just the pope that's infallible hahahahaha
