  • Hard News: So far from trivial,

Looks like there may some issues with the statement made to ACC:

"The spokesman said it would, however, probably not be an issue as Ms Dunne-Powell did not appear to have gained financially from ACC."

    But...

"The ACC website lists "Misrepresenting their accident and/or injury" as an example of fraud.

"Penalties include: criminal prosecution, civil proceedings, debt recovery and penalties, complaints to professional bodies, removal of billing privileges, monitoring and censorship."

  • Hard News: So far from trivial,

Ian - Distaste for violent assault isn't the same as circumventing the law and you'll notice much of the discussion has been on the legal issues.

Whichever way you look at it - revictimisation, harm to the TVNZ brand, juror selection if/when a case comes to trial - it's better for all parties he's off the air.

  • Hard News: So far from trivial,

One thing I like about the 'It's not okay' campaign is how the initial release was followed by some real people admitting their issue and dealing with it. It's hard to say they're rehabilitated without prying into their entire family but they seem to attempting to do the right thing. And that's why I'd like Veitch to volunteer for the campaign.

  • Island Life: Courtroom 15,

    Glad it went well.

And glad the tone was different than the first trial.

For me, it was a visit to the District Court public seats with Mum when I was around 11 or so. Assault, sex, drugs all in a couple of hours. Lessons learnt: Just because the judge says you should know better doesn't mean you do, flirting with the judge doesn't necessarily warm him to you and sometimes people that display themselves as arrogant blowhards are exactly that.

And I also learnt who buys all those expensive suits.

Sorry to say, I've had a reliable source confirm the extent of the injuries.

If truly contrite I'd like Veitch to volunteer for the campaign.

  • Speaker: Who is the bigger dick?,

Gimelstob - were it not for the fact that he presumably has innocent relatives with the same name, it's almost worth making a noun of that name...

Cowan's behaviour, wrong headed and out of order as it was, showed himself a bad 4 in the morning drunk and represented himself fairly accurately it appears. The Union were reasponsible for the rest of the regrettable outcome. Things like this can be the making of an All Black, found and filmed drunk sitting on the side of a Chistchurch footpath, Tana Umanga picked himself up and became the very standard of focus of what was important to him in the game and his life.

Gimelstob was supposed to be representing players. In the 21st Century. With at least a scad of professionalism. And, one would hope, a sense of slf perservation that would keep him polite or at least civil when discussing potential clients.

Mind you, from his attitude, it may be he doesn't mind being known by the title under consideratoin. I mean, when you're called Gimelstob...
