    Clown Prints...

Gerry is taking the p*ss isn’t he?

"I didn't expect it to end up in the newspaper as if it was a threat ... I'm just incensed by that." sure, Gerry, a real surprise... how long you been in politics again? Nicely played!

Distilled life... or brew ha ha?

Someday, someone will do an investigation into the drinking culture of ANZ broadcasting – especially the TV wing- it doesnt just devolve upon the comedians…

...and journalists in general (maybe more so the old school variety) if these Chch quakes had happened twenty years ago and The Press had had to move away from Warners, as it has now, I would doubt they could get a paper out (ditto The Star and its reliance on The Albion at the time)...
a broad brush I know, but I remember similar symbiotic arrangements with The Dom / Post and the pub next door in wellington as well...

  • Hard News: Staying Alive, in reply to Stewart,

    The Grate Gadsby…

I was just pointing out that there is a sub-section of society that scoffs at our ideas of civilised behaviour and cocks a proverbial snook at rules, licences and the like

Why just yesterday in Chch a well known comedian, ex-editor and toper was convicted of his third drink driving offence (“It is effectively his fourth, although an earlier prosecution was found to have special reasons and no disqualification from driving was imposed.”), but he was not jailed as would happen to most any one else under the new laws, he was disqualified from driving indefinitely (can reapply to resit his licence in a year apparently), had his car confiscated (I guess permanently) and has to do community service (120 hours plus 6 months supervision) – his nattily suited lawyer said words to the effect that he had been suitably named and shamed this time – but he was named (and shamed) the other times as I recall, with no real affect it would appear…

the beleaguered league of extraordinary stupidity...

Especially that Button was unsure what was in the CERA Act. Oy vey!

Not surprising at all, Button is well out of her depth - it came out today that she and the other 3 directors (Mayor Bob Parker, Councillor Jamie Gough – and council chief executive Tony Marryatt) of Vbase (Venue management) which has been moved from CCHL control to management by the Council, are in breach of the company's constitution! Even though the Council's own director selection guidelines state that all directors must be fully aware of their Governance duties and obligations as well as bring relevant skills and expertise to the table, which I seriously doubt any of those 4 do - the upside is none of them get directors fees for being there.
But relax, their first reaction is to plead ignorance and then to try and change the constitution retroactively - same old, same old...
    sigh....

  • Capture: Ngāi Tahu, in reply to Adrienne Rewi,

Mahinga Kai practices are so important to Ngāi Tahu as an iwi.

Did you do the lovely large 'Food Calendar' Ngāi Tahu released some years back?

  • Hard News: Review: Lana Del Rey, 'Born…,

    Just the facts, Fairfax fail...
For an Entertainment Editor, Stuff's Jule Scherer looks a little amateurish, her on-line Lana Del Rey album review consistently spells her name as Del Ray (at least the heading and caption sub got it right, but why not fix the rest?) - One wonders if Scherer even looked at the cover of her free review CD, this ain't rocket science, just transcription...

Incidentally, does anyone else notice any similarities
between Lana Del Rey and The Weeknd?

    horror vacui ...

For a more informed and insightful perspective on Stratos, allow me to commend to you David Beatson’s post on Pundit, which underlines the lack of coherence in government policy on regional broadcasting over years

and Beatson is a fine example of the voices and views we are losing ready TV access to as the Government sends us headlong into the age of probably irreversible decoherence - the loss of information from a system into the environment...
This is taking the maxim of "Information wants to be free" a phase too far and gawd save us from the pap that will rush in to fill the space - Nature may abhor a vacuum but John Key and co seem hell bent on creating empty heads...

  • Hard News: Television and the Public Good,

    Foss for essence...

I hold out a bit more hope for Foss than that. Yes, he’s an investment banker by trade but according to one industry stakeholder who has met with him in his new role, he’s sharp and capable of discussion.

I hope you are right, but I can't see him defying John Key (or Mr Joyce)...

I see Foss lives in lovely Waimarama, so he should have a good handle on grassroots television and film, BLERTA were based there and virtually built an entire film/TV industry from scratch...

And as patron of the Hawke’s Bay Vintage Machinery Club maybe someone should commission him to present a documentary on old machines and broadcasting equipment for TV7, oh, that's right, he's closing it down...

What will happen to all those nice TV7 pens?
