and we can all rest assured that these "Canadian passport holders" have NZ residence. yeah, right.
as an aside, i wonder who all these crystal meth users are? and why does nz have the highest meth use per capita in the world?

i don't think Coddington is the main issue here. a quick perusal of her past "journalism" efforts will preclude most people from taking seriously anything she writes.
no, i think this "piece" just throws into sharp relief the true agenda of the North & South editor:
trashy "Shock! Horror! Probe!" cover stories, if that's what it takes to sell some magazines. And if hilarious ineptness in manipulating stats to prove your case, along with some juicy Asian-bashing thrown in, are what it takes, so be it!
and maybe nat-rad in the afternoons could make some effort to have their "panel" sound less like newsdork-zb? intelligent, articulate wingers are one thing, but...

Hard News: More than a little odd,
how could telecom not know where calls on their network are originating from?
-
Yellow Peril: Public meatings,
notwithstanding Zse Ming's starter for ten...
this once again just proves that herald journalists are lazy and herald editors are into xenophobia in a big way, which i'm sure is just fine for the paper's owners because sensational headlines sell papers. try looking at the Zaoui coverage from day 1...
on a related topic (sensationalism), did anyone see the SST front page? i read this bullshit article and thought, "so what?"
so the SST thinks they have performed a social service for these primary school kids? mindnumbingly f-ing stupid. journalism? not even vaguely. -
What do you want them to play at your funeral?,
The Birthday Party?
has to be Sonny's Burning
(Hands up who wants to die!!!)
Nick is a funural natural. -
The NZ Web's greatest hits (and misses),
early good sites:
webworkshop! (yeah, rob and lance, guilty as charged)
CHC Press was the first nz paper i regularly visited. back in the mid-90s my hatred of the herald was visceral and their web presence was nada.
early tvnz site (before they f-ed it up c.1999)
aardvark
scoop and hard news around 9/11. on a friday if i turned my mac on at work and there was no new hard news for the week i would be swearing about that lazy rb for a couple of hours ;-)
more recently:
frogblog leading up to the 2005 election. sooo good, which is why i have now had it with the current incarnation of frogblog. lame. lazy. waste of time. treats its users with contempt. some nice people used to comment, most of them have left the room.norightturn is great. but i/s, will you ever move to a better platform? blogger sucks. and it's a pity there is only a handful of interesting regular commenters.
------------------------brickbats:
- stuff.co.nz? gees, has it improved? I've always found it appalling to navigate.
- radio nz until a couple of years ago. what a disaster. -
What do you want them to play at your funeral?,
a meddley of Joy Division, of course!
- New Dawn Fades
- Transmission
- Love Will Tear Us Apart
- Atmosphereand to finish, because it's got the best lyrics of any song I've ever heard:
- Twenty Four Hours
("Now that I've realized, how it's all gone wrong
Got to find some therapy, this treatment takes too long
Deep in the heart of, where sympathy held sway
Got to find my destiny, before it gets too late")
