    re Travel Perks...
Now it seems politicians are admitting
they are not to be trusted with temptation,
and want their travel perks rescinded ...

...or is this merely a classic case of
    two Wongs unmaking a Right?

    too early?

    No, not Transactional Analysis,
    but Trolls Anonymous!

Having followed, and read, the link to Wikipedia's Troll page, I have had to
    confront a sobering truth...

...My name is Ian, and I am,
    by definition, a Troll!

    Guilty of manipulating words,
    posting off-topic and attempting to
    elicit or provoke emotional responses
all while indulging my frivolous propensities...

... stop me before I troll again!

yes the slowdown is likely due to the fact that we’ve moved the site from San Francisco to Auckland during the changeover.

I, for one, will be glad to get these flowers out of my hair.... but bring on the Summer of Love!

    Narcissists Anonymous meeting success...
Laws, in SST, waxing lyrical about a parliamentary reunion:

And the "characters", dear Lord. John Banks, Jim Bolger, Chris Fletcher, Graham Thorne, Simon Upton, Muldoon, Murray McCully, Jenny Shipley, Winston Peters, Bill Birch, Ross Meurant – we were not so much a caucus as a collection of personality disorders.

    and this

Certainly I talked too much, drank too much, laughed too much and confessed too much. So too did everyone. Because that's the nature of reunions – the exorcism of ghosts and the healing of wounds. This country needs more of them.

OMG, has he quaffed too long from the humili-tea billy? We can but hope...

But he is not outraged by his former employer, although he acknowledges he was egged on to be outrageous himself.

    I guess he knows provocation
is no longer a defence for
    unsavoury behaviour.

    beyond the vail, id ate*

Even better: clicking the “validate” button checks the internal logic of a comment! ;-)
Except for Ian D., in which case computer would usually crash, I presume.

    check this : comlogicment...
    er, comiclogcement,
now I'm stuck in a jam...

*having doffed my hat, I'll eat it, too...

ps: thinking about the Grayed 'Preview' button,
perhaps it could be black and the 'Post' button in gray - but then it could turn black after you have used the 'Preview' button at least once, - though you could leave it so it still worked without going to Preview - thus it might help reinforce good habits (and possibly allowing second thoughts on hasty posts) I recall someone saying, yonks ago, that "Preview is your friend", couldn't agree more...

...hmmm, weird, having written that the Preview doesn't show me the whole text I wrote, though I'm sure I could see all of a preview of a much longer post earlier on?
    What would cause that?
(I'm using Firefox on a Mac if that's relevant)

    ...Here's hoping, <click>

  • Hard News: Do you like what we've done…, in reply to Islander,

    Bears looking into...
I just wonder why is a group of Ursidae
    known as a sleuth?
Perhaps tearing all those trees apart
    they end up with gum-shoes...

...surely a shrewdness of evolved apes,
like us, could work this out?

    Send in the cavilry...
Finally found the 'Edit' link, perhaps that could be on the left and the 'Flag as inappropriate' changed back to 'Report' - as it is used a lot less than 'Edit' and it could be in the middle...

...also the line at the base which gives 'Location, Since date and number of posts' - the number of posts (and sometimes Since) gets lost when people have long locations - this is useful assessment info (otherwise why would it be there?) Perhaps it could push out to 2 lines when needed.

I also prefer the Page number list, rather than newer / older etc,

I note that when I first link to a comments page from the System list, all the posts show up with their dates and times until it has loaded, then they all change to the x-amount of time ago format... seems redundant somehow.

I thought you might've added the YouTube clip embedding instructions to the "Style coding menu" under the Response box, as well, as it is a FAQ.

I always liked the 'Discuss' button link to System pages, it seemed more civilised than 'Response' or 'Comment' or 'Reply' - all of which all could be just invitations to 'Rant'...
er, this may be a case in point ;- )

But all these minor cavilry charges aside
    - I'm impressed with the new look, easy
    readability and re-energised feel.

Now, back to a very hot Show Day off...
