  • Hard News: Veitch,

It was on Mount Street, across the road from a hostel (Macsomething hall?) and next to The Quest on Mount. I think it was called Angie's kitchen, but Keith or Alastair might have a better idea. Keith has it programmed into his iphone, I do know that!

  • Hard News: Veitch,

On a happier note, thanks to all concerned for the PA Social last night - great to meet some of you at last....

I'd like to second that, because I've had a crap day and I'd like to end it on a happy note!
Great to meet some of you. Thanks to Alastair and Keith for leading to the excellent Malaysian place for dinner. Good, cheap Malaysian food - it was just like being in Wellington!

  • Field Theory: You'll Never Walk Alone,

I remember when I was in London a couple of years ago seeing an official police sign in a tube station saying: "Caution there is a football match this weekend at Emirates Stadium. Do not use this station as it will be filled with Arsenal supporters".

Maybe it was more of a public service thing because they were going to have to do all of the station announcements in French that day?

Shaun of the Dead: I didn't like it. There I said it.

I'm with you Hadyn. It's a shame, as it is one of my best mate's favourite films ever and he keeps trying to "reintroduce" it to me.
And I really liked Hot Fuzz, which he just can't understand.
So, you like Hot Fuzz but not Shaun of the Dead. You're a strange, strange person Coats.
We still talk, just not as often as we used to.......

I see all of your zombie/splatter/exorcist moves and raise you Sapphire and Steel.

There was one episode of that where they had a variation of the plague (I think) in a petrie dish, and this guy got the petrie dish flung at his face, and then his face just sort of bubbled up. Excuse me if I have all of the details wrong, because when I watched this as a kid I totally freaked out.
And the last episode is existentially unsettling.....

For disturbing can I recommend Pepping Tom. Just the last scene, when the killer dies but you can hear all the tapes of his father's "experiments" on him in the background. I first saw this film in a film studies class, at at the end everyone was totally creeped out by it.
I thought Saw was good, if a bit gory, because its central premise was about control and what you would do to survive. Similar to The Cube I guess, but not exactly horror.
Personally I find anything with possession, be it Satanic or otherwise, truly scares me. So that would be The Exorcist, various Body Snatcher films etc. Those keep me awake for ages afterwards.

  • Hard News: Doing anything Thursday?,

Great. I'll be there. I may be slightly late as I have to transport a bunch of opera singers into town from Onehunga so if a free drink could be saved for me (bloody free-loading arts practitioners) I'd appreciate it!

Butting in: on Thursday is it okay for those of us from Wellington to attend if we are in town? If so, do we have to wear something that identifies us as visitors to the city? A Hurricanes away strip for example?

  • Field Theory: You paid how much?!,

Well, if you get a QB you've gotta protect him.....
I wonder if Urlacher put some pressure on them to tool up the offence?

I'd love to have met y'all tomorrow, but I have a game of football to play and then a wedding to attend. Shame, because I love Epic!

I think Cutler will do alright in Chicago. I think the Bears had to do something like that to try and keep the fans onside. Basically when you've had to put up with Orton and Grossman you might start to think that the Bears were a waste of your supporting time and dollars.
