  • Hard News: The unstable Supercity, in reply to Brent Jackson,

as consumers we're always advised to buy kiwi, yet big projects seem to always go offshore - nova pay, the trains and stock, IT

imagine if we invested locally, maybe we'd have more of a knowledge economy - I guess this will soon by scuppered by tenders having to be open to all TPPA signatories now too

  • Polity: Key Derangement Syndrome…, in reply to Rob Salmond,

I appreciate your point scoring honesty... and replies

Big fan of the three years free training action, to put it mildly, I enjoyed free tertiary education and want (demand and expect) others to have similar opportunities, also a tad selfishly as we have two high schoolers in our household, both who want to go to uni

Or to save time, I follow the policies Labour are offering up, keen to see more talk about those and many others from Labour and others, also very interested to see more from Labour and Greens on both parties working together way more closely and hopefully the Maori Party and Mana too - i.e. a combined effort working for the benefit of us all :)

  • Polity: Key Derangement Syndrome…, in reply to Rob Salmond,

cheers - I'm all flagged out to be honest, never has a process delivered so little imo.

I care less about the final design as the process - one of the best chances in a long time for us as a nation to discuss who we think we are was at best mangled and and... I am saddened and angry at the lost opportunity

Now I want to know about Labour policy - how the party has and is changing and why I should care about them, point scoring against hooten seems shallow and hollow in this context, especially as thats his desire

  • Polity: Key Derangement Syndrome…,

the infantile games those with too much time and too close to power play - as a mere member of the public it gets tiring to be constantly insulted by those who seek my favour from both sides of the alleged left/right divide

    can we talk policy?

  • Hard News: The flagging referendum, in reply to TracyMac,

But as for those here saying petulantly that they won’t vote for anything Key endorses, grow up

    Is anyone saying that though?

For the majority I see here and everywhere else the design is the primary factor, Key is a bonus but only because of the former and only if you don't like the man or what he represents

  • Hard News: What you lookin' at?,

Lightbox, Netflix and Neon at ours... we've switched on broadcast TV once this year, on hearing of the recent big shake in Christchurch I turned on TV3 to be greeted with Ice Road Truckers.. so I switched off and unplugged the arial device to make way for a charger for a power hungry device

I really appreciate Lightbox's kiwi content, I'd like more of that cause I'll never watch broadcast TV, willingly, again

The adults in our household watch a lot of shows - more telly than I've ever watched as an adult... there are so many great shows and equally (for my taste) terrible. The youngsters only watch one show and thats John Oliver which we "find" for them, outside of that they watch people play games on youtube amongst other youtube delights

I don't care for the problem TV exec;'s have, they've never catered to me so I say stuff em....

I do appreciate NZOA's problem and those wishing to produce quality local content... how do you get an audience big enough to watch without resorting to serving up lowest common denominator clones of whats worked before or elsewhere

  • Hard News: The flagging referendum, in reply to linger,

I'm not sure our government or politicians generally will take any learnings from this process going forward... but you've nailed my thoughts very well, thank you

  • Polity: Poll Soup,

I don't think the left has to win that 12% of voters - they are nationals to lose and its more likely the governing power will lose voters than the opposition pick them up

Saying that Labour especially could really do with some serious work on their messaging - case in point Little calling the protestor yesterday a scumbag

  • OnPoint: Yeah nah, but what *do* we…,

    That’s why I’m voting no

Could you clarify, no to what?

If there is some sort of political will we can go through the flag change process again, whenever - I don't believe there is any law nor legal reason why we couldn't repeat this process, other than common sense.

This flag change has been a huge wasted opportunity and of taxpayers money - we could have had some really informed robust debate and discussion about ourselves and our sense of nationhood, which would move onto designs.... but it quickly turned into a us against them contest not of ideas or image but of politics and PR spin.

I still don't know how I'll vote, for a flag I dislike or a design I loathe, not voting seems like a really solid choice for once.
