  • Hard News: The conversation they want to…,

<quoe>Why was Dad4justice praying with and counselling the couple in the Christchurch murder case? There must be a story there.</quote>

It's er, in that story you linked to

A Christchurch man who spent three years helping the couple fight to regain custody of their three children said yesterday they used to pray together in the lounge of the Wainoni Rd house.

Peter Burns, who runs the Dad4Justice blog, was the Family Court advocate for the dead woman and the man accused of her murder.

The couple contacted Burns through the internet when they moved from Taupo to Christchurch about three years ago.

The woman told Burns that Child, Youth and Family (CYF) had removed their children after she asked them for support.

"They had come to Christchurch for a fresh start ... . She was a lovely girl and I was encouraging her to get herself together to get her children back."

Burns continued to coach the couple to build a stable family unit so they could win back their children.

"We used to pray together in the lounge.

"Initially, I didn't want to help them because their case looked too hard but something in me said I had to help, I had to help the underdog."

  • Speaker: Why not a New Zealand Film Month?,

I'd go an NZ film month, even if it was on TV (I'd prefer an ad free Sky hosting to free to air though).

BTW, why is the Price of Milk not available like, anywhere? It got decent reviews at the time, so it can't have totally sucked.

  • Hard News: The next bylaw will ban irony,

Yes, as a regular occurrence Maori TV has a far better schedule of films and documentaries than TV1,2,3.

Agreed - my only beef is that I usually miss anything good, because Maori TV programme details do not appear in the MySky guide screen.

  • Hard News: Smack to the Future,

Spondre is something of a serial blogger/poster in the blogosphere. He pops up everywhere.

He's also been banned from a number of blogs, and was recently booted off as a poster on right wing blogsite No Minister

He seems to be adept at making enemies. Although he did recently "out" Redbaiter on Kiwiblog (I can't for some reason find the link - will try later), so give the man some credit.

He got the Redbaiter info from here - the link through is hilarious.

Yes, the subject is Redbaiter, but MacLauchlin changed the surname to protect... whatever it is he is.

  • Hard News: Smack to the Future,

I Do believe that there is far to much violence to wards children and that something needs to be done, But this crap arse law is not going to do anything worth while.

Yet somehow making it legitimate to smack children is? Personally, I don't think the media has made the issue clear for the punters. Until a Dompost editorial this week (after the referendum) I hadn't seen or heard anything on TV or newspapers (did on Radio NZ some time ago) that laid out the facts of what is & isn't allowed in the child discipline arena.

Hardly anyone seems to get that Bradford's bill was about removing a defence in certain assault cases.

Who first coined the name "Anti-smacking Bill" anyway? They should be held to account!

  • Hard News: Smack to the Future,

Would the result have been different if the question had been:

"Should children have the same legal protections from assault as adults do?"

There are some over at Kiwiblog (old thread) who have stated they should not. When pressed, it was "because they are children".

Can't be arsed hunting down a link though.

  • Hard News: Smack to the Future,

I may have missed it, but I don't recall anyone arguing that burping a baby is currently illegal.

Aw man, that notion would cause a highly entertaining uproar over a Kiwiblog, if somehow we could suggest it is so with a metaphorical straight face.

Splendid. We should have people dressed as zombies in the nation's boardrooms.

Have you seen the average board of directors? We do.
