  • Radiation: Sensational,

Can anyone confirm that during the week, TV3 led a news bulletin with Paris Hilton getting out of jail? <sundry sarcasm>

I would have thought you'd check first before throwing that one out (did you hear it from Damian?). I watch 3News every night and don't recall them ever leading with it. As I recall they did drop in some video ('vision' I think the tellytypes call it) of her departing jail at around 6.30pm; fresh off the satelite. But they had the good sense not to call it 'Breaking News'.

Campbell Live replayed the same footage that night, too. He had on Robert Thompson, Professor of Popular Culture at the University of Syracuse, New York who correctly called them out on doing a story about 'why is everyone so fascinated by Paris' as a pretext to running a story about Paris without appearing to endorse her celebrity. Campbell had the good sense to laugh it off with "you've totally blown our cover!"
You can see that clip here

It's interesting that you should start your blog with a diss on Paris Hilton, and yet finish with a gush over Project Runway.

  • Hard News: Not off to bed,

If someone's kid had been killed in a police chase then I think that would disqualify them from being Police Minister on the same grounds.
Didn't Annette King's schoolteacher daughter crash her mum's 'ministerial car' (a new Beetle!) a few years back? And they found XTC in the car? Or have I got the wrong minister?

Campbell Live's scrumptious Jaqui Brown had to interview rap star (and host of C4's Pimp My Ride) Xibit; but he really wasn't interested. And he made that plain. Anyone else got any stories of interviewing 'artists' who plainly didn't give a f@#k??

    what Damian just said

No, I'm not surprised and I 'know' what you're saying is 'true' but that doesn't make it 'right'.

No wonder the young kids don't bother to vote, they know it's a bunch of Rs and won't change anything. Which is why they'll just go on doing what they're doing and ignoring the law.

And when people learn to start ignoring one law they start ignoring other laws too. The older generation reap what they sow.

Police Association spokesperson Greg O'Connor was on the radio news this morning applauding the ban for a variety of reasons, all of which were completely hilarious.

Perhaps some of your 48 Hour film making friends could get a copy of that audio, match it with some footage of young kids hopped up on liquour, score it with 'Bliss' by Th'Dudes, and then post it on YouTube. (And then link it here on PA, obviously). Too easy, I know, but.

O'Connor's ridiculous comments were that kids need to be taught that all mind altering substances are bad and should be banned so they know they're not legal. He all but (seemingly) said that they should stick with beer.

More young people have been harmed/killed by Alcohol than BZP, yet we see no rush by the Government to ban that. The government would have been better off to regulate the amount of BZP allowed in pills, and then tax it. That would have killed the buzz.

You can bet the kids will be stockpiling pills before the ban comes into effect in six months time!! The pills will actually be cheaper now, as wholesalers & retaillers seek to quit their stock ahead of the ban.

Ah yes. Did it actually "collapse a couple of weeks earlier" or is that just what they say when you arrive? Similar to arriving at an 'always sunny' holiday spot only to find it raining, heavily. And the locals/staff invariably always say "oh, but you should have been here last week. It was so hot you could've ..."
