  • Hard News: Wikileaks: The Cable Guys,

Psst, guys, you notice how there're more comments on this page about how important it is to talk about the cables and not about the allegations than there are about the cables and the allegations combined?

I reckon if we stop talking about how no one talks about the cables and start talking about the cables, there might end up being a whole discussion about the cables.

Not that I'm game to start, of course, personally being completely tabloid.

  • Hard News: Spinning and soldiering,

why the hell implement this policy in the first place?

Have you considered what happens when we build super massive prisons to deal with taggers and the buggers outvote the good burgers of the electorate they're visiting? Huh?

You wanna have the boss of cell block D4 elected and pulling in $130000 a year minus $10 a day for not showing up?

That's massively depressing, not wildly surprising and really puts the final nail into the arguments about diplomats needing secrecy to promote human rights dealt to by Giovanni's go to guy on this subject (see Giovani's post)

Or it was a seat of the pants operation, full of amateurs doing their best,

    Badly planned, in other words.

*Edit: Indeed even a spook n00b knows that it wouldn’t be the FBI doing it…doh.

I didn't pick up on that. So you're at least one step up the career ladder.

Though it would have to go down as one of the worst planned and executed honey traps of all time.

    How’s that?

Personally, if I was planning it, I’d have suggested not making the tweet about hanging out with the coolest people on the planet, I’d have made sure the complaints had a bit more, you know, substance to them, I’d probably have had them lay complaints individually before talking to each other and I’d have had my prosecutors lined up a bit better.

Unless all that is a planned double fake out to make me doubt it’s a honey trap, of course.

the first thing to note is that there is no, “file on citizen X”

But you would say that, wouldn't you. Hope you're putting in for time off in lieu.

Unlike everyone else it seems I think Naomi Wolf DID hit the nail on the head as well as being very funny. Perhaps her angry irony whizzed past as well:-

Oh, mate, that wasn’t even the best bit. The bit where she explained that the rape allegations weren’t even a political hitjob but actually the hysterical inventions of a couple of slappers who were totally up for it and only got angry cos he didn’t pay them enough attention? That bit? Fucking hilarious.

If the comment made that obvious point without gratuitously tossing out such pearlers as "vomiting their ignorant claptrap" and wasn't part of a string of posts which show a certain pattern, I'd agree with you.
